I still think that it is a 50 with a scrubbed Izzy receiver cover. If you blow up the picture of serial number, it looks like there is a faint number showing (original s/n??). Also it looks like receiver cover is not flush with receiver, which also could indicate receiver cover being scrubbed. I could be wrong, but let other people give their opinion.
1953 Izzy refurb, but as far as I can see the only thing not all matching is the laminate stock. Low serial number too. I purchased this sometime in the mid 90’s when Russian models were few and Chinese SKS’s dominated the market.

Never said it wasn't a refurb. I said I think it was built using some early Tula parts, as I have seen on many '53's. You don't see '54 Izhevsks with early Tula parts on them. I anyone here has such an SKS, please post pics.
Some Refurb factories don't care, If it fits and within spec. Put it on and spray with Cosmo comrad!!But why Tula would give parts to Izhevsk, When Tula was producing SKS up to 1958?
