I'm considering a purchase of the above rifle and I'm looking for some input on it.

The 7.62x39 version is specifically the one I'm after. I'm between it, and the CZ 527. I've owned a Savage in the past and was extremely impressed with the quality and accuracy so I'm a little partial to stick to that brand.

Thanks for you help.

I have owned both. Still have the Savage. The Savage is much more versatile when it comes to a sight system. You can use peeps, scope or LER scope. The gun shoots .310 and .308 bullets equally well. Only one draw back the Scout magazine only holds 3 rounds due to its design in handling the short M43 round. The accu stock is fanatstic. Accu trigger is very good also. Overall the gun suits my needs better than the CZ. Having said that the CZ is a pretty little carbine.

I like the rifle. here is mine along side a ruger scout.

The LOP is no different than other Savage bolts. (at least I find no difference) It does have a really spongy recoil pad. Not that the little Russian cartridge has a recoil issue.... I have mine scoped conventionally with all irons removed.

This is essentially what im planning on doing with the rifle.

Where did you find a rail to replace to factory scout style setup?

I took the forward mount off then replaced it with Burris two piece bases. Works great. I put a plug screw in the barrel drilled and tapped hole. Used the conventional drilled and tapped holes on the receiver to mount the bases. (Burris were the most easy to find and priced right) Remember the scout takes different bases because of it's round rear receiver. ( not all Savage bolts are the same for two piece bases)

i have one in 308. it is a great gun, one of my favorites! i had my sight moved back an inch or so and then got it threaded! also a coustom break for it. have a weaver k4 scout scope for it and the gun is really accurate! it shoots .5 to 1 inch groups at 100 yards, also i can hit a 4L milk jug at 300 yards every time with a 4 power scope!

I had one of the early ones, pre-accutrigger, pre-accustock. I used it in the scout configuration and was completely satisfied with all aspects of it. I eventually sold it after getting a Steyr Scout, which I admittedly prefer...but the Savage provides way more bang-for-the-buck than the German wondergun.

The new one with accu-everything should be even better. If I were doing it again, I would track down a low-range-variable scout scope and mount it in QR rings, allowing fast access to the very-effective rear aperture sight if desired.

I found this page to be a pretty solid resource on the 10FCM (I'm in the market to buy one in .308 later this year) and there is a company http://www.sharpshootersupply.com/ that manufactures extended magazines for the .308 version though I have no idea if they ship to Canada or if that would work with the x39 version.

The mag for the m43 round is unique. It has a block at the rear. This places the cartridges further forward in the mag. This reduces the mag cap to three as the rounds' caseheads sit further into the mag taper. No big issue though. I much prefer the flush fit mag system over Ruger's extended mag.
