Anything Missing!?

You have more experience than me; but I agree with the Jeff Cooper school of thought that shootability in field positions and ease of use supersede paper groups. I wouldn't disown the express sights because they aren't great at 300 anymore than I would discount a one ton truck because it can't drag race.

While I may have more experience than you by virtue of age, if you have spent 5 minutes hunting in northern BC, you have infinitely more experience at it than I have.......

Let's put it this way, I can hunt moose with an outfitter here in Ontario for about 1/3 the price if not less........ But potential tried by quality, scenery and overall experience is what I am after...... I do see from what research I have done that the woods are quite thick there..... But have also seen footage of 300 yard shots etc.......

I guess what it comes down to for me is that, on a special hunt, I want to be as prepared as I can be for the moment of truth..... As much as I like to get as close as possible, as close as possible may not be within iron distance.....

Talking about the moment of truth. I guess that this is where that 458 starts to feel small.

I have seen that pic before...... If I recall correctly that elephant died less than 5 feet from the Hunter........ It's an incredible story..... Will post it if I can dig it up......

I would agree with the vx3 for sure...... As to the vx2, they are nice scopes but I consider them equal to the Terras......

Put it this way..... With the RSM in mind, I consider it a "flagship" rifle for me..... And I am struggling to put a Terra on it and would have the same struggle with a VX-2.......

As much as I am not a fan of gizmos and gadgets afield, I am actually considering the 1.5-4x in a VXR...... But have yet to get some actual in person glass time with one...... Research leads me to believe vx3 quality glass with the firedot option......

The jury is still out, and thankfully the RSM has awesome irons....... In fact, if I can print a 6 inch group at 300 reliably with them it won't get scoped at all...... But admittedly, I would be surprised if I can achieve that no matter how good those irons are.....

You can't go wrong with the VX-3 1.5-5X20mm in your low rings... or I have have a spare 4BO offset here if you want to go with the offset up front as shown in that RSM thread.

I am starting to lean heavily towards the VX-3....... But those irons and quarter rib are so nice it's a shame not to use them........ So I guess that will mean a second "special hunt" dedicated to the irons :)...... It does have woods bison written all over it.....

Thanks again for the rifle...... I picked up 3 m77's and a 10/22 from Clay shortly after and, other than the guide gun getting the odd honourable mention, this is the one I am the most enamoured with and excited about........

Hard not get excited about a beauty like that... if I had not gone on a wild shopping spree stateside, it would still be here.

I had heard that both walked away uninjured. But that may have been incorrect.
