Fellows,

A friend of mine has a 300 RUM and bough four boxes of factory loads, all nickel plated. The guy who does his reloading (I offered, but another of his buddies already got set up for it) for him told him the brass is not reloadable, after he tried and failed to be able to properly resize the brass. I told my buddy NOT to throw out his expensive brass and that I was pretty sure nickel plated was reloadable and I'd look into it. I offered to reload his stuff myself if it was reloadable.

So, is the stuff reloadable? If so does it need any special steps or anything? I was thinking that the other reloader just didn't hace the brass lubed properly, or didn't have his dies adjusted properly.

Thanks in advance!

Yes it's reloadable.

It's harder on the outside than unplated brass and is allegedly a bit harder on dies, but the reloading process is the same. He'll notice the hardness when sizing and especially when chamfering the neck.

I get the occassional bit of flaking, but otherwise it's just fine. I use it at competitions to keep my brass out of other people's pockets, and sometimes to make different loads (e.g. mild and hot) easy to distinguish.

Don't reload his brass ,have him come over and use your equipment and reload it himself . Any mistakes are his mistakes. If something happens with stuff you reloaded ,his heirs can sue you, even though he doesn't want to.

Yeah, see you in court. Good luck proving you made the loads for him, unless you sign the box.;)

Judge: Did you make handloads for Bob Blahblah?
You : Absolutely not!

I found the nickel plated stuff kind of a pain, but it can be done. I found it brittle, I had to really watch the flare the PTED put on, had some splitting issues. I generally try to avoid it, but if it's free...:)

Okay fellows thanks for all the info. Sorry Dan, you're out of luck on that one. Maybe I should have told him I'd "dispose" if his 300 RUM brass and neck sized it up for my .375 RUM! That'll show me to be too helpful!
