Anywhere in Canada who carries 6-48 bottom taps?

I need to clean up some slightly dinged threads and looking for a 6-48 bottom tap. Anyone got a lead for one in Canada? Worst case I guess I can order it from ebay but figured I'd check CGN first.

Call round to some local machine shops. They may be able to help you out. Maybe even tell you where you can source one locally.

Thanks. That's one of the first places I checked. They're sold out online. I just checked their inventory locator for local stores, nothing in any of the GTA stores all the way out to Oshawa to St. Catherines and up towards Barrie.

I think I have one I can send you. Will have to check when I get home from work.

If you're in a serious pinch, you could grind off the bottom of a plug or taper tap so that it's flat and works as a bottom tap.

This is true but I don't have any 6-48 taps. Smallest I got at home is a 6-32.

Did you try Lordco or Napa? They have had odd-sized taps I couldn't find elsewhere before.

I couldn't find any locally; neither could they special order them. (Just didn't carry then in that thread size/pitch).

Ended up getting some off of eBay or Amazon.


Be sure to get a Carbon Steel type rather than the cheaper HSS; the logic being when (not if) you break a tap in a hole.......

the carbon steel can be shattered and removed piece by piece,

...HSS; not so much
