Anywhere to buy 1F hulls?

I usually have garbage bags full of them when the snow melts and I pick them up. Federal, Remington and Challenger. A local trap range might be able to supply you, I woudl think?

Ilast time I tried there I didn’t have much luck. They were always picked up and dumpster diving was frowned upon.

Did you ask if they could put some aside for you? If they’re pitching them in the dumpster anyhow, they likely would welcome the help in getting rid of them, especially if you helped clean them up. As long as you don’t leave a mess and are helping clean things up most ranges will give you as many hulls as you want even if you do go dumpster diving to get them.

At our skeet club, we throw away thousands of 12 and 20 gauge hulls. A few regulars pick them over, then they go in a large hopper that is dumped when it is full. What you won't see in the hopper is 28 gauge or 410 hulls, unless they are beyond their useful life.

Our club tosses them. Shooters usually keep their premium hulls like the Win AA etc. Lots of "Club Hulls" are of the cheaper shells steel head, hard plastic / brittle hulls, poor 6 point crimp etc. and are not great for reloading. They *may* work well for a "fire & forget" field shell but if you are looking for longevity (multiple reloads) I would recommend sourcing premium hulls. YMMV

Buy a flat of premium ammo and collect all your fired hulls.
$pend once and cry once ...till the next time that is.
The op doesnt really say how many he requires...250, 500, 750 ???

I don't shoot a whole lot of 20 guage but wouldlike to have some for when the boys and I go pheasant hunting. I'd be happy with a few hundred.

Go to the local gun club with a skeet or sporting clays range. Offer to help clean up (picking up the empties from the ground) in exchange for keeping the 20 gauge hulls.
