About a month ago, I finalized a sweet deal on three Jager AP-74's ...

One of the three lowers proved irrepairable, but I got such a deal I decided a project was in order .. :D

I figured the "M-16 A1" look was ok for one, but needed to upgrade the looks of the other.

Since aftermarket parts are non-existant for these, I had to do a bit of fabrication. The front textured handguard and the fake 'can' were made from scratch out of odd bits lying around my shop.

The handguard is solidly fastened between the front sight block and the reciever, and the 'can' actually utilizes the broken flashhider to thread it solidly on the barrel. The barrel length is exactly the same as the black one, but the intended illusion is there. Add an actual AR grip ( which will still need a bit of fitting later ) and an off-brand of O.D paint, I think I have something that will get a bit of attention my next range trip. This mornings range trip found that it printed well enough, but I have some internal polishing needed to get the reliability up to snuff.

I have an "A2" long handguard on order for the remaining receiver, to replicate the '"M-16 A2" profile, just not sure wether to O.D it to swap back and forth on this build, or leave it black for the original receiver.

Maybe not as usefull as a 10/22 build ( I already have a completed and uber-reliable 10/22 ) but it was fun, satisfying, and above all ... aside from time invested, cheap as hell ... :D

Finished The A2

Just finished this the other day. Finally got my A2 forend and took about a half hour to fit it correctly, and I got a A2 'birdcage' muzzle break that actually threaded on properly ( I discovered the AP barrels actually take anything threaded 1/4 NPT thread ) .. had to do a bit of jigging, but I like the end result ...

Finally got all three of them ( A1, A2 and special .. ) running satisfactorily, and with regular .22 lr to boot .. :D

The fake-supressed one continues to be a hit at the range .. some have nearly needed a sedative when they saw me shooting it .....
