APC 308 - Review and Discussion

It is a shame that B+T/Wolverine Supplies don't sell the Buttstocks without the Hydraulic Buffer, as a fella only needs so many of those Buffers at $225 CAD apiece. Especially since the Buffers are so easy to swap out with the removal of a single roll-pin. I'd much rather not have such an expensive device just sitting around on a basic factory buttstock that is relegated to the parts bin. It would be far better to recyle the Hydraulic Buffer from the Factory Stock into a bare-bones version of the enhanced B+T Buttstock. As it is, they are charging $670 for that Enhanced APC Rifle Buttstock. Recycling the Buffer would save the customer $225, putting the Stock at a more reasonable $445 price-point, more on par with the cost of a Magpul ACR Buttstock and a Haga Defense aluminum Buttstock Adapter (if you can find them, as they are now both discontinued). Anyhow, just a thought...

I wish there was an option for with or without the buffer, so I definitely agree with you there. That was the dilemma I ran into. Pay a bit extra to secure the B+T stock or try and find the HD/Magpul kit which is getting harder to secure by the day.

You will have to look long and hard for a sub-MOA .308 gas gun. I've owned the LMT MWS (the British L129A1 DMR) as well as the APC 308 and neither rifle is sub-MOA. Both are 1-1.5 MOA with factory match ammo. The only semi-automatic, sub-MOA .308 that I have ever seen is my Colt USA LE-901, which is the rifle that the new Canadian C20 Sniper Rifle is based directly upon. It is the only .308 that Colt USA ever put into production and features their very first monolithic Upper Receiver with a free-floated Barrel. Hence the exceptional accuracy. Here's a photo for reference:

As regards the whole "disproportionate Buttstock" issue with the APC .308, I think a lot of it has to do with the camera angle after all. I just snapped this photo with more bias towards the rear of the rifle and suddienly the Magpul ACR Buttstock looks fine to my eye. The switch of optics may have also helped - I dunno. I also re-evaluated the weight without the big Arken optic on top and the APC 308 s really no heavier than the FN C1A1 that I lugged around for 6 years at the start of my military career. So it's not really that heavy after all for a full-size battle rifle.

you are making me sad thinking about this

Perhaps the Benelli MR1 in .308 would deliver the sub-MOA accuracy that you are seeking, I don't know. From what I recall however, folks who own them claim that they are very accurate. How accurate that is, I simply cannot say. I've never had any interest in the MR1 as it has no military pedigree, but YMMV...

The Tavor 7 will be my next rifle to take down some deer. The APC is way too much coin. Beautiful firearm though.

Try before you buy if possible, as some folks love the Tavor 7, but not all. It didn't work for me, as I couldn't group worth squat. Odd, as the X95 suits me fine. In any case, the .308 may or may not be to your liking, so best to try one if possible before you commit $3500.

Id agree with Bartok on this one, I was very apprehensive due to the wide range of reviews and reports on youtube/ other forums, reports were all over the place. I was lucky enough to spend a day at the range with one and was more than pleased with its performance out to 500 yards, so I purchased one last week. It will be my new game and plinker rifle.

The MR1 comes in .308 now? That's news to me.

Another fine day on the CHAS Range at Genessee, Alberta banging steel out to 800m with various firearms including the APC 308.

My Son and I spent a fair bit of time with the APC 308 again today, thanks mostly to the arrival yesterday of a new Arken EP5 5-25x56mm Rifle Scope. We zeroed the new optic at 50m then moved over to the long range for grouping at 100m and steel out to 800m.

We fired mostly South African Battle-Pack Surplus 7.62x51mm NATO ammo, which produces pretty consistent 2"-2.5" groups at 100m. The practical accuracy seems almost better than that, as we encountered little difficulty ringing the small 6"x6" gong at 500m. We switched to PMC Match 168gr HPBT ammo for some "serious" groupings at 100m. Once the barrel was re-seasoned with match ammo the groups tightened up to their usual size, with all three photographed groups averaging right around 1.3 MOA.

I wonder if a guy could get these to group with hand loads

I have no doubt that a properly developed hand-load would tighten those groups up, possibly into sub-MOA territory. I have yet to see any centrefire rifle that did not shoot better with a properly developed hand-load than with factory match ammo. It is almost a certainty that if you neck-size and load match bullets in the 168-175gr range with a carefully measured, appropriate powder, you will obtain better than factory match ammo results. Just how much better is the million-dollar question! The biggest limiting factor that I have ran into during my reloading days was the bullet seating depth for OAL to fit in the detachable magazines. I always ended up having to seat the bullet deeper than I would have preferred, increasing the "jump" from casing to lands and grooves. That said, there is no question that you will get the best possible results from a good, match handload.

Looks good! I'd meet ya at Chas next time you go, I'd love to hand one. I've got one on order from Wolverine and never handling one has me have the gitters a little bit. I'll trade ya time behind the APC for time behind the AI haha

I will PM you my number to text. Give me a shout when you are gonna be available and I will see if I an able to meet up. You are welcome to shoot the APC 308 to your heart"s content, all I ask is no steel-cased or corrosive bulk/surplus. South African or Portuguese, etc, surplus is fine, as is any bulk M80 or match loads.

Looking forwards to meeting up!
