Aperture Sight on Ruger American Rimfire?

I have a Ruger American Rimfire that was set up with a nice scope, but it really wasn't what I wanted out of the gun. I recently removed the scope and went back to the iron sights. The gun is lighter, it looks better and I find open sights to be more fun. However the factory irons leave a lot to be desired. I'm also a corrective lens wearer and sometimes I find the original sights hard to focus on. I'm considering installing a set of Skinner aperture sights. They look like quality sights, however I've never used aperture sights before and because of the difference in the dollar I don't want to shell out the cash unless I'm sure they will suit my needs. I use the rifle mostly for plinking, informal target shooting and some occasional hunting. So I'm looking for opinions on those familiar with this style of sight. Will a "peep" be an appropriate/good choice for what I'm doing? (Please no suggestions to "just scope it") Thanks in advance!
 
I made up a couple sets to shoot in our clubs monthly informal silhouette shoot with, one set for myself an another set for a lady who shoots with us and who also has a RAR.
The skinner sights are nice, but, you also need a good front sight with a small blade.
The front screw is a #6-40, and the rear screws are #6-48, in case anybody needs to have that info.
I am still testing these things, the hole in the aperture is .050" at the moment, just about the right size, and the front blade is .050" thick.
The rear sight adjust for windage, and the front sight adjust for elevation

Those are awesome! Well done! Unfortunately I don't have the equipment to do that for myself. Skinner does offer a front ramp that will fit the RAR, as well as different sights to fit the ramp. They have a front sight combo available that they have tested on the RAR, the front is F.O.
 
Same reasoning as mine. I decided I needed one .22 I could use (not abuse) but not worry too much about, that would be light, compact and replaceable if it got banged up.
I put a Skinner low-profile 10-22 on the RAR, as it just screws into the rearmost screw hole on top of the receiver. I managed to shoot short-range groups at 25 and 50 m that I found quite satisfactory, although I could not zero for windage since the front sight is not adjustable.
I purchased a set of Tech sights and plan to leave it at that. I really like the fine-ness of the front sight post and the sight picture you get. I also ordered the set of aperture inserts and adapter. We'll see how it goes.
I learned to shoot in cadets using the good old Enfield .22s with aperture sights and got great results. If only I still had teenage eyes!
