APEX Triggers

I've ran both the comp and the carry. Go with the carry kit. The comp is far too light, even the carry is a little too light for my tastes.

For any M&P shooter, if you don't have a S&W pro trigger kit you have to have an Apex. First and foremost it gets rid of the horrid trigger over travel issue, and the trigger stops when the round fires. It takes all the grit out, and gives you a nice steady pull that brings you to a perfect wall. Glass break shot, and very positive tactile reset.

I enjoy it, an again, would not run an M&P without one
 
I have the comp in the 9mm M&P. 2 1/4 lb break. Go with the carry it's 41/2 to 5 lb but it's such a clean break you'll think it's less than that. I also have the RAM installed. It helps with the reset feel and sound.

Have one on my 9 (it's been on there since they became available) and had one on my 45. Just like getting a trigger job done by a good smith, without the shipping and the wait time. Also they are very durable, I'm well over 15,000 rounds on the Apex sear with no perceptible change to the trigger pull or reliability.

How is your barrel doing at that round count? I've owned a few but haven't pushed them past 5000

No Issues, I have around 30,000 rounds (give or take) through the pistol, the barrel looks rough (chatter marks in the bore) but it has since day one, and it's never affected accuracy. There's remarkably little wear on the slides finish, in fact when I do a full teardown and cleaning (once a year ultrasonic cleaner) it comes out looking new, the only give away is that the magwell is pretty gouged from mag changes.
 
The AE spring kit didn't make much of a difference with my M&P Pro, but the AEK trigger provided a huge improvment.

I have the carry kit in my M&P 9mm and it made a HUUGGGEEE difference (I actually did the AEK, RAM and FRE all at once... the RAM is really really nice too!).

I let a fellow IPSC shooter try it out after I installed the Apex parts. He previously owned a stock M&P (I think he put about 20K rounds through his) and switched to a Shadow, partly due to the lousy trigger on the M&P. When he tried mine with the Apex parts in, he came away with a giddy look and said "Man, I wish I had done that to mine when I had it! Shoots like a dream."

It's a relatively expensive upgrade package ($200 worth of upgrades on a $600 gun...), but totally worth it, IMO.
 
Wow. Awesome feedback. The Apex trigger has now moved to the top of my MUST PURCHASE NOW list. Thank you all for your feedback. I was thinking of the FSS kit since I like the action of a 1911, but it looks like maybe the carry kit and RAM might be the way to go. I will have to have a long look and decide which one.

Here is my 2 cents worth.

I have a 9MM Pro with the Comp kit/Ram installed and use the gun for IDPA SSP Division. Trigger pull is smooth as butter, fast reset and sits at 2.25lbs. I am ranked Sharpshooter in this division. At my skill level I think the lighter trigger pull helps when shooting weak handed and when targets are out at 25/35 yards. I really don`t believe I have enough talent to take advatage of the faster reset. While dry firing at home and just pulling the trigger slowly for feel the crisper trigger certainly feels good, not so sure it makes much difference when the buzzer goes off though. All and all if you are shooting a sport without trigger pull weight restrictions then the Competition kit by Apex is a worthwhile addition. The Ram IMHO was a waste of money other than I hear a nice click when slowly dry firing at home. When shooting a match I never notice it.

I have a .40cal Pro with the FSS/Ram installed. I use this gun for IDPA ESP ranked Sharpshooter and for IPSC Standard Division and Steel shoots. The trigger pull is around 4lbs, there is no pretravel to speak of and the break is clean with little over travel. Note: If you install the Apex Duty trigger return spring you can get the trigger pull above 5lbs if you shoot a sport where the FSS trigger would be legal and you require a minimum 5lb trigger. Again at my level of ability - see above - I am not sure I get much additional advantage with the FSS trigger installed. If I had to do it all over again I think I would have just stayed with the Comp kit. The FSS trigger is nice and I do think I get some benefit out of the lack of pretravel but not so sure about the faster reset.

Lastly, I have a FS M&P 9MM with all Pro parts and a Apex Duty Kit trigger return spring installed. Trigger pull is 5.5lbs, is smoother than a a regular M&P but not as smooth as the Apex Comp kit. I use the gun for IPSC Production Division ranked B/C depending on who shows up. Do I shoot this gun any better or worse than the other two - I have to admit I don`t. The longer sight radius helps with the longer shots but aside from those I can`t say I really shoot that much better than I do with the other guns, with all of the parts installed. I do shoot the 9MM/.40cal Pro marginally better and I know my times are slightly better than they would be if I had left the guns stock. How much better.....a lot better if she who knows best is reading this post.

The Comp/Duty Kits are certainly no more expensive than a good trigger job and accomplish the same thing. Depending on the sport you are shooting you can taylor your gun to your particular needs. For this reason alone both kits are worth looking into. For me the jury is out on the FSS trigger system. For the money I am not so sure it bring much to the table that I can take advantage of. You may be able and if you can then the FSS system may be worth while.

This what I ordered from Bownells:

"APEX M&P Competition Action Enhancement Kit -Comp AEK", it comes with the USB and AEK springs.

I didn't find it a significant improvment over the stock Pro trigger.

As far as reset goes, before buying a RAM try simply tweaking the trigger bar gently toward the centre of the gun by gently grabbing it with needle nose pliers and gently forcing it over - in a gentle manner and while being gentle (did you see what I did there?), you won't hear the click, but it will allow you to feel the reset through the trigger. The USB gets rid of the "false" reset that some M&P's have from the factory (if you feel 2 clicks, the first one is the false reset).
