Apparently this is OK in BC now

the fact the conservation offices says we have to see if charges are warranted tells you they want to let it go, if one of us did close to that we would be in a cell and lost firearms, the town must surely have no shooting in town limits, be easy to charge him with that as a starters

Yes, funny how it wasnt till late in the report they then mentioned that this happened on a Vancouver Island Reserve.
Take it up with the Band Office.
Rob

Yes. There was a thread elsewhere that was filled with public outrage.... apparently it's cool though if the perpetrator don't look like me.

What a joke --- it's deliberate but don't kid yourselves they know what they can get away with cause if they don't then it's back to racism etc etc my fathers, fathers, father was persecuted so it's my right blah blah..

Nothing will happen here - but I agree anyone else - the key would have been thrown away - and there would be a protest from this person saying his right was taken away and want compensation... grrr.

Happened on a reserve. Nuff said....

Yeah nothing will happen I live between two reserves and my property backs on to one of them, I have caught Natives trespassing on my land while I'm out on my horse and they're hunting with firearms, which I might ad is within city limits against by-laws etc etc and nothing gets done.

Well I watched the video.

As a butcher by trade and having moonlighted in a few slaughter houses , honesty nothing I haven't seen a thousand times.
A buddy of mine who shot many deer ,a few moose , countless ducks and many other animals nearly passed out one day when he visited me at a sluaghter house when a big steer got hit with the stun gun / captive bolt and got it's throat slit.
I thought he was going down. Mr. He man himself......White as a sheet.

Usually just take the shot wait 20-30 mins for it to die. Or like a bear wait for the death bawl you always hear about.
What do think happens after you pull the trigger for those 20 mins ?
Do you think the animal makes a cup of tea and relaxes ?

I think some people need to nut up a bit.

Was it too grafic for some .....Yup
Was it illegal ? Well it was a .22 rim so probably unless there are other rules for indigenous people.
It was in town , so that's not cool I doubt legally.
Do I celebrate the death of a animal like that.......No........ but some do.
I see high fives by all kinds of people on hunting shows.

In short if he broke laws he should answer for them.

But if you think your beef steak , pork chop , chicken or roast of lamb doaner had different death experience than that deer .......You need a reality check ! Go hang out at a slaughter house for a day.

well said ^^^

what I think the real shame here is that this video is now being used as anti hunting propaganda on the news and social media. I agree though , the whole thing "appears" very distasteful and irresponsible.
BUT I think the guy that took the video and sent it to the news is a RAT and a fuggen moron for doing so as that action alone has given the anti hunting community a big boost and a video to play over n over to amplify the horror. If the guy was concerned he should have gone to the band council , conservation or LEO.... not the fuggen media geesh.

native or not, I don't like what i see in that video but again, I've seen the inside of pig, chicken, turkey and cattle slaughterhouses and I'd much rather put a bullet in my own meat after seeing how the food industry does it.

People have delicate sensibilities, so seeing the throat slit would be upsetting to most, however if you have ever raised pigs, turkey, chickens etc it would not be such a shock. In regards to being on a reserve it would surprise many of the people commenting that the people on the reserve would be just as upset, as they would, unless they where used to it. I personally do not have a very good view of Snap chat users, since this is the favored means of communication among street level drug dealers!

I think maybe the bigger issue is the obvious double standard?

If this was a white guy, in a small town who did this... broke local discharge laws, broke hunting laws by killing deer with a .22, then he would have his firearm/hunting license revoked, charged, and arrested. No debate, about that.

I can't blame the Conservation Officers, and other local officials for wanting to just let it go. Imagine if they charged this guy, took his firearms? There would be protests, cries of racism, cries of preventing someone from obtaining food for their family. Sigh... there is almost no point in doing so.

Whats cool about what?
Limit time made a point about it happening on a Reserve on the Island .
His quote was "Happened on a reserve. Nuff said..."
Obviously my comment didnt have the shock and appall at the close proximity to residential housing.
Both on the Reserve and Off the Reserve.
Imagine if that bullet missed and went through the Hereditary Chiefs front window and into his flat screen television, would we even be discussing this here and now?

The government nor the band office can legislate common sense.

Does this mean that any neighbourhood on the reserve is a good backstop for a possibly poorly aimed projectile? If the hunter gets off without scrutiny, which I believe may happen, then the hypocrisy of the situation is unbelievable

Taken in context of post oka canada it is in fact quite believable.
Our politicians are cowards. The indians realized that and used it to their advantage.
Now the politicians and LEAs are bowing and scraping to the indians every whim.
Case in point would be the disgrace of the mcguinty government, fantino and caledonia.

Believe me I am old enough and not naive enough to know this has and will happen for generations. I know that there are likely a bunch of people mad at the actions this hunter took even in his own community. The double standard of police enforcement that could happen if the situation was under different circumstances is appalling. But to say such things is not politically correct and would get you strung up.
