+1 to iouri comment.

Besides the general match reputation, personally I really like when some vendors/sponsors are present at the match. So, both Frontenac and Ontario Provincials Level 3 matches were up to the level on that. Prizes/plaques are nice too, but we all know how tough to find sponsors in Canada...

This is a very interesting topic.
My thinking;
All we have to do is look at the way USPSA does it in the states. We should be getting the same value for our time and money. That is it. Shooters are customers. The system is already in place. Charge $X and get X round count and a quality match with good stages.
It should be a 2 year project and the match directors should try to build a good team around him/her.
Again, my opinion and nothing more.

By the way, even though I will most likely not be making the ESSA match which will be a match worth shooting, I will be donating the match fee to Storm for 2 reasons.
One, it is for a charity that I like to support and two, because he is busting his hump with his team to give us a match that is probably going to be the best L3 in Ontario this year.
My thoughts and nothing more.

Stop bothering with prize tables and door prizes. I already have everything I need to play the game. If there's something I want - I'll pick it and buy it, and selling whatever I win is a PITA. The major effort (and it's big) put into prizes is better invested in something to do with the match. It's supposed to be a match, not a gunshop.

I totally agree!

I have said it before that no matter what people say about him he does a lot for our community! :p

I find Level III's over rated. I'd rather shoot a 6-8 stage level II.

Shooting a match is fun, but after 10 stages in a day, it becomes a bit of a marathon. Spreading it out over two or more days is fine, but many can't justify the time. Sure, having a BBQ and a T-shirt is cool, and building setpiece props is nice. However, I would rather shoot three decent Level II matches at $50 each than one Level III at $150.

Right on dude. As well, Stormy has 'busted his hump', so to speak, supporting IPSC and the shooting sports in general and deserves all the support we are able to give.

There are clubs that I think, use IPSC matches simply to pad their bank accounts. You can tell by the unimaginative stages and useless props. Yet they charge a premium.
I'd say no more than $150 and even that is stretching it. Better be two good days of shooting, good trophies, f**king awesome stages, and a good prize table. I disagree with PH on the prize table distribution though. I prefer random draws for prizes, at least the big ones. Never been a fan of giving the best prize to the top finisher. Unless its cash. If we had money matched I'd be all for it being done by finish.
Hmm maybe we should push for money matches..........

If it was a money match i wouldn't bother going. at my shooting level i would be lucky to win back anything so why waste the match fee.

With money in the line you might just see less stupidity. No one wants to get tossed or penalized and lose out on a big payout. It works well in some of the shotgun matches. And any match I've been to with a steel cash side match has had a lineup of guys willing to make multiple attempts to win.

I would like to see match fees kept at a minimum. Return a few $ to the host club and forget expensive prizes, random draw or otherwise. A match should be about shooting, having fun, camaraderie and bragging rights if you win.

:D

Side matches...now that's different :)

That I am up for. You pay your money and take your best shot...or shots :D

I have run these myself - 50/50 side matches.

Half the entry fee paid out in prize money and half back to the club.

Works very well.

I didn't vote because I don't care how much a match costs, so long as I feel I'm getting my moneys' worth out of it, I'll pay it. It likely is one of the smaller costs of the price to attend the match anyway.

I come to shoot and see how I rank against the best. Nice Plaques are just fine with me, but go deep with them and recognize categories too.

Spend the rest of the income on the match (Box lunch included is nice, water at stages good, tents for shelter, etc.) the ranges (Nice Props & Targetry!) and the banquet, some long term investment in the club is reasonable.

totally agree.
for a level 3, make the fee what ever, just make the match worth the fee. A level 3 should have plaques for top 3 overall and class winners at least.
The Staff needs to be taken care off too.

basically what i said but in short

totally agree.

That's basically what I said, but in short....and vague statement....and now we go back to argueing about what "making it worth it" means.....

At this point I don't see myself paying $100+ just to shoot a match. I just can't justify it. most I paid was $35 and thought it was a lot. I pay for my IPSC membership, bring my own ammo I don't want any prizes I just want to shoot.
