Appropriate Milling Machine suggestions

I guess I missed this thread before. I have an imported one from Harbor Freight Tools. It is plenty for me to learn on. Eventually I hope to move up to a Bridgeport but this on is working fine for now. It is item 42827 on the harborfreight.com website.

I went and picked it up. They have several outlets fairly close to the border and they will order them in to the store (if it is not in stock) for you at no charge. The border officials were in a good mood that day and only hit me up for the GST.

They do ship across the border but generally leave the customs papers up to the shipping company (so beware if they ship using brown trucks). I worked in a machine shop for many years and we had some of their items shipped to us and it was never a problem.

If you watch the website closely they often put the milling machines on sale for a couple of hundred dollars off. That would certainly help pay for the shipping and/or taxes. I bought mine for $899.00 on one of their sales.

They have a belt driven milling machine that is very similar to mine also. If you do not like the gear noise and do not mind moving the belt to change the speed every once in a while it appears to be a decent deal too.

Harborfeight has a perpetual 20% off coupon available online. It takes a bit of searching but it is there somewhere.
