I had been hoping to put a set of Talley quick detach or leupold quick release rings on my swedish mauser action, however I'm now out of my depth.
As far as I can tell, neither leupold or talley make mounts for the m96 mauser action, and since the reciever ring and rear reciever bridge aren't equal heights, I'm a bit stumped.
I'm not sure if it would be viable to mount a contoured plate underneath the base to give it the added height, that the screws would run through into the reciever itself.
Alternatively, are there extra thick bases made for the purpose of being fitted to guns that're not typical?
Finally, have side mounts utterly and completely fallen out of style? I have several ww2 milsurps with reproduction or original side mounts that shoot beautifully, so I don't see why they shouldn't be around.
If sidemounts are still made, who makes them?
Edit - My reason for wanting quick release or side mounts are so that if I end up in a situation where I feel my scope may be off and cannot resight I can simply use the irons on the gun, and then try resight the gun later, without having entirely dismounted the whole scope assembly.
That's my justification. In general, I don't trust scopes, and want quick release, or some way of using irons easily if I so choose, and I dislike see through mounts.
