Just wondering what people thought (aside from the obvious invasion of privacy issue) if CGN were to add a star or alike beside a persons name for anyone who provided proof of being a licenced holder? It sure would take the guesswork out of selling. I only mention this due to a recent transaction (internet private) where the seller was afraid I might not be the person I say I was or be providing inaccurate information (ie like I was 16 saying Im much older in order to get a firearm) Information would obviously be voluntary and the Admins would have to approve such. Just a thought...feedback???

If I was admin I wouldn't't touch this with a 10 foot pole. Liability in this case would be the problem. Use the trader rating as a way of verifying. If other guys had sold to him/her in the last year you should be good to go. If not don't sell, stay local.

Good question. I haven't sold any NR guns since the registry died. Give or take I would not sell a gun unless I was entirely satisfied that I was selling it to a licensed person.

If their licence expired the next day would Greentips call the CFC to confirm it was renewed?

I know, we let the CFC administer the EE, they could protect me from the risk of selling to someone with a fake licence. Let's bring back the LGR. Think of the children.

I'm think of moving back to the UK, I wouldn't have to deal with this scary stuff there.

I doubt that the site owner(s) want to get into that . Anyone can fake something if they are dedicated to doing so and if this were my site I wouldn't want the responsibility of policing that .

One primary question; who could verify? Who could vouch for other people, could I get a buddy to come on here and say "Yeah, sure he's licensed to own full auto." so I can buy a machine gun?

The problem with a system like this is the burden of proof, unless we provide the verifier with hard copies of our licenses that are thereafter overseen by a certified and neutral third party, then there's no real proof that someone actually gave proof that he is licensed. It is open to too much word of mouth.
How many times have you actually seen the PAL of people at your range, or who you know own guns? You might go hunting with a guy every year for twenty years, and vouch for him being a great guy when he needs a reference, and then you realize he has never been licensed. Without hard proof of proper licensing and third party verification all it takes is one guy and his friends to get in on it and get caught with a gun they bought from us and then the next day in the news we all hear about the "Nation-wide firearms trafficking ring exposed!" And the problem with hard proof third party verification is that it creates another point of entry for the system to be compromised, much as the registry did. Someone would access the records and then suddenly copies of all our PALs are bouncing around the internet.

Sad, but that's it is with today's society and system and the enforcement of victimless crimes.

I guess going by the trader rating is a reasonable thing when dealing with other CGN-ers but there is always the people who do most shopping outside and that leaves them with a low trader rating. I guess fenceline may be right and this may not belong in RR section but I thought Id ask here since this is where I most frequent. I mean no offence to anyone I was just trying to figure out if there is a way to make it safer for all parties involved. With getting the LGR removed the last thing that needs to happen is a firearm gets placed into the hands of the wrong person easily. It would instantly destroy all credibility that has been well earned. As I said I only got to thinking of this after a deal and wondered if there could be a better safer way within our own members. I like what Stevebot says it just leads me to believe it is too much to ask at this time.
