Approximate Value of K98 Mauser

With all my respect to all you guys and especially to the original owner who is the great gentleman: I ask what I think this gun is worth and if you think I'm misinformed, so, perhaps the majority of the sellers here are misinformed as well.
There's one listed outside of CGN for 1635.00. He thinks his rifle worth this much and so be it, I guess.

Didnt mean any disrespect to you, i just thought your price was a bit high.

Its a post war refurb, with a few mismatched parts. Just my opinion.

It is a nice rifle though. I even considered making an offer. lol

 Don't bother me none. Way I figgure it, when my oldest is ready for her first year of college I'll be able to pay her tuition, buy her a car and move the Wife down to Vegas just by selling off a couple Garands and k98s.

Heck, by then an SKS will run North of a grand... I'll never have to work again!

BWAAAAAHAHA. Suckers.

The one you are talking about has been sitting on his site for several months, and the rest of his stuff is wildly overpriced as well. There are certainly people who will pay it, convenience is a factor obviously, since they are not too commonly available now.

If yours is as complete as the listing makes it sound, it is probably a $900 gun to someone with the money. You say everything except the bolt handle and buttplate are original German #'s - is that the case for sights? Does it have the sight or the German one?

The front sight base appears to be Waffenampted, but the blade is Norwegian. The rear sight is original with matching German serial numbers.

the barrel is only stamped 7.62mm

I have one of these in 30-06. The barrel is stamped 7.62 at the muzzle end. Most people would think that the 7.62 means 7.62x51, but it does not necessarily mean that, according to the quote above.

Be careful with these old milsurps (and with any rifle). They are not always what they seem to be!! The Portugese rifles stamped with the 6.5 whatever but actually chambered for 8x57 are an excellent example.

Firearms safety people extoll the sage advice that you can always tell what caliber a rifle is by what is stamped on the action. NOT ALWAYS SO!!

I love your way of thinking... we will be all millionaires :D:D:D
