APRA 300m Sierra Match

Good Morning everyone. I'm terribly sorry for the short notice but with the weather and other things to consider, we're going to have to hold the 300m Sierra Match on Saturday Oct 18th and Sunday Oct 19th, attempting 09:00starts. 4-15 shot strings plus sighters. 60 shots for record. If there is a need, you can enter one day as F Class and then the next day shoot TR. Only if your a glutton for punishment.

Dan, it is at the APRA off the Homestead Road in K Country, west of Calgary AB Canada

Hi Glen, can't make it (yes, I'm NOT on-call for a change BUT Doug P. called a budget meeting in Nokomis on Sunday at the Pizza Joint so that is where I will be. After the meeting, a few of us plan on turning some carefully loaded cases into empties and a few others are planning some target work too) :)

I've been reminded by others what I should have indicated: the plan is to run the 60 shot Sierra Match on Saturday and repeat the same program on Sunday. This is in an effort to make the match availlable for as many shooters as possible. If you can't get there for Saturday, Sunday is still an option. Also it allows a person to shoot F Class one day and then Target Rifle for the second. All of the above is, of course, entirely dependant on attendance. As the weather is supposed to cooperate, it seems a shame not to use both days

Normally this match is attached to the Provincial Championships and is a one day affair. This year being the exception due to range access issues.

If I have forgotten anything else please let me know.

Mutt, I think you have to hold a Provincial Rifle Association type membership.
You can get a SPRA one for $50, I hear you will be coming to Nokomis for a match Billy/Paul/Eddie will be putting on soon :) In Sask, if the date you buy your membership is after Aug 1, it is good for the following year too. The memberships run Jan1 to Dec 31 at most PRA's so you may end up buying it and it only good for the one remaining match! We even sold a SPRA membership to a yank this year in July so he could shoot on our PPRA team and he may never come up to Sask.
 
Hi Mutt, depends on what your future plans are and where your located. Like Keith indicates, you'd need a PRA (Provincial Rifle Association) membership from one of the provinces or a DCRA membership, all of which are time specific and annually paid. The APRA membership is 100 bucks and if you want to join any group other than Fullbore, (Benchrest, Silhouette, Swiss, Service Rifle, etc) it's an additional 25 to 50 bucks depending on what discipline you want to get involved with. All the Clubs in the APRA are listed on the website http://www.albertarifle.com/ I believe we allow a 1st time shooter a go with just match fees alone. I'd have to check with the powers that be. (Insurance issues and all). Love to see you show up and we'll go from there. You'd be able to shoot. The Match fee's for the 300M are $40.00 for the Day. If you shoot one day as F Class and the next as TR, you'd pay 40 again for the second day. The match fees have to pay for target markers, supplies, prizes and all the wear and tear on the 300m targets. Hope this helps.

Slight alteration to the course of fire. Due to the number of target faces availlable for use with the match, we'll have to return to the earlier format of 3-20 shot strings. Still 60 shots plus sighters just on three targets of 20 instead of four for 15. This is because, after they are scored and recorded, you can keep them.

Secondly, if you shoot both days in a class, only the best score will count toward awards ie: F Class day one-598-27X / F Class day two-598-35X, the Day two score is for record. If you shoot F Class Day one and Target Rifle for Day two, the scores you shoot in each will be for record in that classification.

Mutt roc, a first time shooter at an APRA Match does not require a membership. You'd only have to pay the match fees. The first one's membership free. If you like what you see, then by all means get a membership and get involved. I'm sure you'll have a blast.

Third, it looks like we'll only have enough markers to actually organize and supervise the target face changes during the relays so it will likely wind up being competitor marking.

thanxs for all the info. i wont be able to make it this time but im hoping to get out to one next year. (one of the longer range ones) what are the rules for kind of guns u can shoot.
 
I showed up for the shoot, it was snowing like a bugger, 9:00 came and went and nobody had organized anything except the fire in the shack. I was too concerned about the return drive to BC and called it a day.

Mutt, any caliber less than 323 if we go by DCRA rules. I think Homestead is certified for 338 but, and it's a big but, no muzzle breaks are allowed. It's pretty much run per the DCRA / ICFRA rules for F Class. http://www.dcra.ca/ http://www.dcra.ca/rulebooks/ICFRA TR TECHNICAL RULES-3 Jul 08.pdf

Nope, she bought a big ugly Livestock guardian dog instead - and it stinks, drools and farts worse than me. Made for a looooong drive home.
 
Sort of like a Road Trip with Richard but less backtalk?

To bad you couldn't have stayed. Sunday actually turned out not bad, even got a bit sunny. Sneaky, dirty, little changes and no flags to lie, not much mirage either. Made for a fun time.
