General Notes:
• $40 for the two day match or $25 per single day, shoot card use preferred.
• F Class target will be the 1/2 MOA V Bull Center.
• TR shooters may choose to shoot 10 shots per distance, to be determined on the day of the Match.
• We are going to try a new Service Rifle category to shoot alongside the TR shooters at the short ranges, 300m to 600m. DRCA Service Rifle equipment rules apply.

April 27th & 28th – Homestead Season Opener - CANCELLED (too much snow)
• Saturday - 2+10 at 300m, 400m, 500m & 600m
• Sunday - 2+15 each at 700m, 800m & 900m

May 11th - Saturday - Free Clinic / New Shooter Day – 2+10 each at 400m & 800m

May 12th – Sunday – One Day match 2+15 at 600m, 700m, 800m & 900m

May 25th & 26th – May Day Competition
• Saturday - 2+10 at 300m, 400m, 500m & 600m
• Sunday - 2+15 each at 700m, 800m & 900m

June 8th & 9th - Homestead Match
• Saturday - 2+10 at 300m, 400m, 500m & 600m
• Sunday - 2+15 each at 700m, 800m & 900m

June 22th & 23th – Wild Rose Match
• Saturday - 2+10 at 300m, 400m, 500m & 600m
• Sunday - 2+15 each at 700m, 800m & 900m

July 13th – Saturday - 300m ISSF Championship - Sighters + 60 shots at 300m ISU target

July 14th - Sunday - Free Clinic / New Shooter Day – 2+10 each at 400m & 800m

July 26nd to July 28th - Fullbore Provincial Championship
• Friday - 2+15 each at 300m, 600m & 900m (Lt. Governors)
• Saturday - 2+10 each at 400m & 600m, 2+15 at 500m & 800m (Provincials)
• Sunday - 2+10 at 300m, 2+15 each at 700m, 800m & 900m (Provincials)

August 10th & 11th - DCRA Alternative Match
• Saturday - 2+10 at 300m, 400m, 500m & 600m
• Sunday - 2+15 each at 700m, 800m & 900m

September14th - Saturday - Free Clinic / New Shooter Day – 2+10 each at 400m & 800m

September 15th – Sunday – One Day match 2+15 at 600m, 700m, 800m & 900m

September 28th & 29th – John Howard Memorial Palma Match
• Saturday - 2+15 each at 700m, 800m and 900m
• Sunday - 2+15 each at 700m, 800m & 900m

October 12th & 13th - Frost on the Pumpkin Gil Hirst Memorial
• Saturday - 2+10 at 300m & 400m, 2+10 (TR) / 2+15 (F) at 500m & 600m
• Sunday - 2+15 each at 700m, 800m & 900m

Alberta Fullbore Rifle Association (AFRA)

The AFRA is a competitive target rifle shooting club. We have access to and are stewards of the Alberta Provincial Rifle Association (APRA) 900m range facilities at the Homestead Shooting Complex. We are not a general gun club - we are target shooters maintaining the 900m range to shoot target rifles. The BTSA, Buffalo Target Shooters Association, has the use of the 900m range on Wednesday evenings for general long range shooting and for sighting in hunting rifles.
We shoot prone from fixed firing points at DCRA (Dominion of Canada Rifle Association) targets from 300m, 400m, 500m, 600m, 700m, 800m and 900m. DCRA targets for TR have a 1 moa center with 1 moa scoring rings from 5 to 1. The F-Class DCRA target has a ½ moa center and 1 moa scoring rings from 5 out to 1.
Membership;
• You must be a member of the APRA or a Provincial Rifle Association ($100.00 per year plus a $100.00 initiation fee), such as BCRA or SPRA.
• AFRA membership is $60.00 per calendar year.
AFRA access to APRA 900m Homestead Shooting Complex;
• Access is available to the 900m range on Match days or on practice/OFL days every Friday (call ahead), see match schedule or look on the APRA website calendar.
• APRA Digital keys will be made available to AFRA members, on an annual basis at the AGM, who have attended 4 or more AFRA matches per calendar year and/or at the discretion of the AFRA Executive. Cost of the key is $100.00 which is forwarded to the APRA.
Course of fire is usually as follows;
 300m = 2 convertible sighters and 10 shots on score
 400m = 2 convertible sighters and 10 shots (TR) or 10 shots (F-Class) on score
 500m = 2 convertible sighters and 10 shots (TR) or 15 shots (F-Class) on score
 600m = 2 convertible sighters and 10 shots (TR) or 15 shots (F-Class) on score
 700m = 2 convertible sighters and 15 shots (TR) or 15 shots (F-Class) on score
 800m = 2 convertible sighters and 15 shots (TR) or 15 shots (F-Class) on score
 900m = 2 convertible sighters and 15 shots (TR) or 15 shots (F-Class) on score
Our matches are conducted once a month on a Saturday and a Sunday. Usually we shoot short range, 300m to 600m, on one day and long range, 700m to 900m, on the other.
The rifles we shoot are grouped into two categories Target Rifle (TR, TR-O & Service Rifle) and F-Class. F-Class has three divisions which are F-Open, F-TR & F-Factory.

Target Rifle (TR) & Target Rifle – Optics (TR-O)
TR Sights = Iron Sights, long range micrometer rear sight and long range front sight with appropriate iris
TR-O = any scope, usually high power variables such as 6.5 x 20’s or 12 x 42’s
Calibre = 308 Win or 223 Rem
Bullet Weight = 156 grs for the 308 Win and no limit for the 223 Rem
Rifle Weight = max of 8.25 kg
Trigger Pull = min of 500 grams
Other equip required = shooting mats, shooting jacket, spotting scope and target sling

F-Class Open (F-O);
Sights = any scope, usually high power variables such as 6.5 x 20’s or 12 x 42’s
Calibre = Max APRA 900m Range Template (CFO approved) is a 338 Lapua Mag, no muzzle brakes allowed
Bullet Weight = no restrictions
Rifle Weight = max of 10.0 kg
Trigger Pull = any safe trigger
Other equip required = shooting mats and bipod or front BR rest with a rear sand bag

F-Class TR (F-TR or F-FTR);
Sights = any scope, usually high power variables such as 6.5 x 20’s or 12 x 42’s
Calibre = 308 Win or 223 Rem
Bullet Weight = no restrictions
Rifle Weight = max of 8.25 kg
Trigger Pull = any safe trigger
Other equip required = shooting mats and bipod with a rear sand bag

F-Class Factory; Any unaltered factory rifle (glass bedding, re-crowning of the barrel & trigger adjustment are allowed)
Sights = any scope, usually high power variables such as 6.5 x 20’s or 12 x 42’s
Calibre = 308 Win or 223 Rem
Bullet Weight = no restrictions
Rifle Weight = max of 8.25 kg
Trigger Pull = any safe trigger
Other equip required = shooting mats and bipod with a rear sand bag

Service Rifle: DCRA Service Rifle, Competitors Equipment 5.03 Firearms
Any rifle with any sight and in any caliber that meets range regulations, it must be a service rifle style firearm. All firearms must meet the trigger pull specifications of these rules.
Other equip required = Shooting mat and a spotting scope

A couple of questions on your Service Conditions matches if you will indulge:
- Are you planning on eventually running DCRA SR matches complete with appropriate targets, positions, timings, etc., or just these informal matches run alongside your regular full-bore prone ones? It sounds like the later, but just want to be sure.
- I am lead to believe the DCRA rules allow pretty much any rifle, any sight in SR - what defines a "service rifle style firearm"?
- If SR competitors are shooting alongside Fullbore shooters, are the prizes at the Provincials open to SR competitors?

It sounds like the later, but just want to be sure. - At this time the AFRA plans are that the Service Rifle will be shot alongside the fullbore prone shooters using TR targets and the TR / F-Class course of fire. There are no plans to shoot any other Service Rifle Matches. Any further enlargement of SR shooting will only come about as a result of interest and appropriate individuals to get into and run the SR Program. The Fullbore Executive must be certain there will be no repeat of CSRA. The Fullbore Executive will be fully involved in any development.



• I am led to believe the DCRA rules allow pretty much any rifle, any sight in SR - what defines a "service rifle style firearm"? - The rifle must look like a service rifle, e g it can’t be a Rem 700 hunting rifle it must look like a military rifle.



• If SR competitors are shooting alongside Fullbore shooters, are the prizes at the Provincials open to SR competitors? - Service Rifle will not be part of the awards at the Provincial Matches . If a person wishes to shoot a service type rifle they can, but the will be placed in the appropriate catagory for awards (Executive will decide and their decision is final).

In the introduction, it says that "we do not allow the use of restricted and prohibited rifles on the 900m range". So, this means we can't use our own (Canadas') version/variants of the current service rifle (AR-15), correct?

Considering that 90+% of Service conditions shooters use the AR15 this is a bit of a problem.
 
It sounds like F-Class with a service rifle division/category.

I'm curious--previously "black rifles" weren't allowed to compete on this range, and now they are. What led to this revision? Or is that too long a story? Does APRA control AFRA?
 
Same course of fire as TR / F-Class.

Now that the AFRA membership has voted to include SR in our monthly TR / F-Class matches and as stated in an earlier post, as AR-15's are 90% of what is shot in SR, it was logical to allow their use.

The AFRA is part of the APRA organization.

For sure there will be some birthing pains as we work through the details. The idea brought forward was that if the rifle met the DCRA NSCC rules as a 'service rifle', it could be used in the proposed service rifle division for fullbore shooting - I'm sure that competitors in the division might have some suggestions going forward as we work through a few matches. Two immediate concerns that will need to be addressed are the containment of ejected brass (screen?) and current open bolt requirement between alternating shots (safety issue).

Our two match format is 300-600m on one day, 700-900 on the other.
 
I believe the reasoning behind the NSCC rule regarding SR allowing 'any rifle, any sight' is due to form equalling function.
The attributes of SR competition help to define the equipment used without the need to specify what that is.
In my humble opinion, if a competitor isn't doing a run down, timed rapids with magazine changes, or positional shooting, the competition becomes a different animal.
The AR-15 fow while ideally suited to the current NSCC course of fire, will undoubtedly be out classed by several types of service rifles - mostly bolt guns, but semi-autos as well as the competition is modified.
At the risk of sounding pedantic, inclusion or exclusion of some of those rifles begs for the further definition of a "service type firearm".
As an example, the TRG-22 certainly meets NSCC requirements and is a service rifle by definition. The TRG can be adjusted such that the trigger meets the 3.3lb pull weight for bolt guns and completely outclasses most every semi-auto out there. Would a rifle such as the TRG be within the rule or spirit of a service type firearm?
 
If someone only wanted to shoot at the 300m levl and not farther, would that be ok? or would one have to shoot the whole match from 300-600 yards? just courous because i only have an 8x scope and am just getting trying to see what comps are all about.

Dave - As our 300m firing point is under construction our short range matches in actual fact start at 400m.

If you just want to shoot one range that's your choice. Come out and try it, you'll like it.

There will be others that will be using iron sighted ARs, and M14s. Your 8x will be an advantage.
 
This is brilliant news. Congrats. We tried to propose a "Tactical F-Class" in BC but the pompous indignation and threats of resignation on the part of the TR dominated senate were pretty pathetic and it died. I am thrilled to see this and hope it works out for you.

For sevral years my brother & I have tried to get shooters interested in Precison / Repeating Target Rifle shooting, with AFRA Executive approval, but no one was interested. We'll see how far this goes!

I agree - my personal bias is I'd like to see it as an AR .223 class only ... ultimately it'll come down to the competitors and what they using. It may take a year to sort out what works and what doesn't - gear is one part of the equation, the other is the shooter. Heck ... Enfields could rule again!
