Hi all, I'm old, late and tired but the big news for anyone interested in attending is:
The APRA 2008 Provincial Championships have been relocated to Nokomis Saskatchewan for June 27th, 28th 29th and 30th due to the Homestead Road washout. The SPRA has graceously put forth the North Star Range for this event for which the APRA is eternally greatfull.

The Course of fire will be modified slightly to reflect the change from meters to yards. The Sierra 300m match will be dropped and put in at Homestead after the Road is replaced.

I'm sorry for the late notice but the arrangements were only completed last week.

Cheers, Glen

Glen,

How many shooters do you get for this event?
We have 8 positions at 300m and about 14 at 200m at the Spruce Grove Gun Club. We are pretty booked up but we could run the 300m Palma match I think.

Scott

Thanks Scott but we normally see a minimum of 20 shooters and this year we'll probably see 30 or more. I wasn't aware SG had butts and target handling kit. Have I missed something? If they had butts there, you could probably run the 300m ISSF Sierra match. A true Palma match is always 800, 900 and 1000 yds or 700, 800 and 900 meters. The distances we shoot start at 300m and go to 900m or 1000 yds depending on the Range we're at.

Cheers, Glen

Could you give us the match details or a link to them? I'm interested in making the drive from Manitoba but want to know what the schedule is as well as what the distances and round count are going to be.

Hi PG, the distances have to be modified slightly as Homestead is metric and Nokomis is in yards but it will be pretty close to this:
June 27th to June 30th - APRA Provincial Championship
Friday - 2 + 10 at 300m, 400m, 600m and 800m (Provincials)
Saturday - 2 + 10 at 300m, 600m, 700m, 800m and 900m (Provincials)
Sunday - 2 + 10 at 500m, 500m, 600m and 800m (Provincials)
Monday - 2 + 10 at 300m, 2 + 15 at 600m and 900m (Lt. Governors)

Quick figuring sees you'll need 202 rounds but it never hurts to have a few dozen more. Strange things are done in Sask in the afternoon.

Cheers, Glen

Entry Form

I have changed the Meters to Yards and included them in this post after the original yardage distance in braces ....

Glen,
We have 300m butts that the Swiss rifle club uses, 4 positions. We run regularly 20 to 40 shooters through our 100m, 200m and 300m service conditions match 8 at a time. We have been using a condensed version of the D.C.R.A for about 15 years now, consisting on 10 rnds at 300m, 20 rnds at 200m and 10 rnds at 100m fired prone, sitting, kneeling and standing. We start at 11am and usually have everyone finished by 2 or 3 in the afternoon.

Scott

Hi Scott, sounds like I'll have to get out there and have a good look. I've been so damn busy trying to get the work assignments out of the way before we go to Sask.

I know several shooters who frequent your place and have been out there a few times. I wasn't aware they had butts. If the target carriers will handle a 4 foot square ISSF target backer, I'd like to talk to you about putting on an APRA Northern Region 300m Sierra Match. They do a couple of these type shoots in Kamploops every year and they are a scream. We shoot 3-15 shot targets, prone strings and rotate back to score the next guy then a break. Do you have target pullers availlable?

Cheers, glen

Hi Mutt, yes, the targets have to be marked, pasted and scored after every shot. That's why I'm wondering if we're not getting a little crossthreaded regarding what's availlable at Spruce Grove. I'm sure if they had anymore than a dirt pile backstop, we'd have heard about it.

Cheers, Glen

The Match...

APRAPROV2008.jpg

Sorry the image is a little small, but it was a pretty big program. I left out some of the aggs (LR/SR/Ottawa) and only showed the scores and match aggs shot. Only 5 possibles shot by the 17 shooters over the course of 12 yardages shot.

Match winner in TR was Pete Jmaeff in most aggs.
Match winner in the Lt Gov's was Carl Ganter.
Match winner in F Class, in all aggs, was Glen Taylor.

Friday was rained out after the first yardage and Friday's scores were removed from the program to allow others that may have come out for the remaining matches a better chance at the aggs.

Saturday was a good readable day with good scores turning up.

Sunday was strong fast switching fishtail south winds, a challenge to say the least. You could go from one side of the target to the other (2's) at 1000 yds if you shot the extremes. A BBQ was held after this day's matches and thanks goes to Glen's wife Sherry for all her work making salads and such.

Monday was again fishtailing winds but not as strong as Sunday had. Again, shooting the extremes you would go from one side just missing the aiming mark to the other at 1000 yds.

All in all, it was a really good time and everyone enjoyed themselves, I think. Note the newbie that came out for the Monday, B. Johnson. He shoot really good for his first match ever, firing a 308 with 175g bullets, a 182-17V out of a possible 200-40V, that's over 90% in the 5 ring! Good shooting Brynn!!!
