Well there we go, it's not as bubba'd as I thought. It's pretty accurate too! If someone can assist me, I've got some pictures of it (can't get them to work :( )

thanks skippy for posting these pics !i was starting to get upset. i paid 550 for this one.the bolt doesnt seem right the numbers are down the bolt handle like a yugo capture. all other parts right down to cleaning rod and action screws are legit .its also by far the most acurate 98k ive got to date.i dont think it was ever issued.

Nice piece whitey07.... :)

You're right ... definitely a post war rebuild...

Front sight hood has been removed and the bolt's been scrubbed (replaced?), but that's about all I can tell from the pics. Hand guard looks like it was replaced during the refurbishing process...

Check the markings, bluing and configuration of the 1941 Portuguese Contract K98k (Karabiner 98) Rifle (click here)http://www.milsurps.com/showthread.php?t=1090, displayed in the Germany - Milsurp Knowledge Library (click here) http://www.milsurps.com/forumdisplay.php?f=15

That will help you compare exactly was has been altered and replaced during the rebuild.

Is it a "G" serial number?

Regards,
Badger

Is it me, or is that Savage wearing a characteristically Longbranch looking set of front wood?

I think it might be. I noticed, after stripping the finish off  , there's an arrow in a "C" near the end. Since the gun is restored and as such is not a collector, I figured no harm could come in stripping the finish. I just wished I paid more attention.

yes its a g block rifle 14### ive got a h 7### block 100% correct pourt 41mauser as well .for what its worth the handguard and the stock have the rifle serial #s in the barrel channel.the two rifles stock markings are the same the only difference is the bolt. i did the boiling water and vinegar treatment on the bolt and i was able to remove some of the bluing.i almost think somebody got this rifle without a bolt and tried to fake it by grinding the numbers off and cold bluing the scars.i could be wrong though. its not a 100% correct rifle but im going to baby it like it is. i got rc and a yc capture 98ks that bear the brunt of my range time .

Here's a teaser for this month's acquisition that I've been hinting at ;)

Full photos to come once some accessories arrive next week. A cookie to the first person to ID it. And yes, it goes bang ;)

NICE, damn.... now I want to throw away all my current projects to buy a SA Mg34 too... Very jelous!

Now you know why I offloaded some stuff earlier this month ;) This one was handpicked and set aside by a friend who worked at Marstar. He found a new career, so I had to move it or lose it. I moved it. No regrets :)

Sadly, Marstar forgot to ship some of the accessories I ordered with the gun, though I'm told I'll have the missing bits early next week for a full photo montage...

Or maybe I'll wait for my Nazi flag to arrive from IMA to use as a backdrop...?

Sadly i dont have mg34 parts like I used to. I had everything but a receiver. But I know a few places in the states that have great and rare parts.

Did you get an original bi-pod, or one of the israeli ones?

Make sure to post lots of pictures!!!

Number of Israeli bits on my MG34: ZERO ;) Just lots of chickens.

As for the US, I don't think you can legally export MG34 parts from the US anymore, regardless of paperwork.

Good for you, sounds like you got the best of the best.

I suppose you are sadly right about the mg34 parts. Even barrels are not allowed to cross the border.
What parts are you missing?

Not missing any parts exactly. It came with a cracked buttstock, so I sent that part back for replacement. The other missing stuff is accessories that were accidentally not shipped with my order. No biggie, stuff is on the way :)

Only other issue is one that's common on nearly ALL TNW assembled guns. The Yugo Army MG34 kits they bought to build these were all demilled with the 9.5mm Aluminum cored practice ammo booster cones installed. They SHOULD have 11mm cones for ball ammo. They still work with the 9.5mm cones, but it's hard on the locking cams and bolt. It's easy to lathe the 9.5mm booster cone out to the proper 11mm hole diameter though if you're worried about it.

As far as I know, Israeli kits haven't been used by TNW for at least 6 years now. Supply long ago dried up. They are easily ID'd bu the bipod with adjustable legs and Czech marked barrels.
