Got my two new Mosin Nagants from TradeEx :D A 1944 dated M44, and a 1943 dated 91/30. Both Izhevsk manufacture. The M44 stock has lots of little markings on it though, not entirely sure what they are.

I'll try to take some better pictures once the sun comes through the window.

Already posted below, but what the hell. Bought this Ross Mk.III from Collector's Source - Indian DP wood, which I can live with, pinned bolt, nice bore. The only serious problem is the crooked front sight, which I'm going to fix.

Okay, technically March purchases and one has already been posted but what the hell.

1942 LB DCRA conversion. I got a 308 mag on the way :dancingbanana:

If you look close you can see my first 10 shot group at 100 yards with surplus ball. This is after adjusted the windage and getting "comfy" with the gun.

It's been a busy month. I got one more "on the way" pending CFO blessing but here are two more. I picked up a M38, Ministry of Defence marked M38, all matching, counter bored, no import marks. It seemed lonely so I picked up my first pistol to go with it, (damn now the flood gates have opened!), a Tokerave T33. All matching. Both are 1943 dated.

Now of course, I had to put out my 1943 SVT 40, 45 M44 Laminate and 1943 1891/30 for the photo. I've had them for a bit, but it just looks so nice together!

I'm going to wait till I file my taxes and get the $ back, but I'm thinking a Nagant revolver will look good in there.

I picked up an ROF LE No.4 MkI; no pictures yet, but it looks to be in good condition. The barrel has been bedded, so the only real flaw is that the top rear hand guard doesn't sit quite flush against the bottom handguard.

My long-awaited FN49

Egyptian FN49 in 8mm. I have been chasing this particular rifle down for a little while now, and now that I finally have it in my hands I'm pretty pleased with it. Overall condition is great in my view. Haven't taken it out to see what she'll do but looking forward to that.

I didn't know it when I initially inquired, but it turns out to be from pretty late in the production run; SN 35###, a three-swivel variant with the scope cut. Initial inspection shows she's all matching and the bore is in very good shape - though a good cleaning is overdue. Has the original single-piece firing pin which I will replace with a two-piece I bought on spec.

Why an FN49? First saw one in an old Guns and Ammo "Surplus Firearms" magazine I picked up. Great looks and FN build quality, what's not to love? Why the Egyptian model? Easiest to find, and I can focus on 8mm, having an RC K98 in the safe as well.

I have a couple of questions mixed in with the pictures

FN49full.jpg

First: The gas cylinder plug will not turn easily..scratch that...will not turn at all without serious effort. I suspect a soak with penetrating oil will help. Other suggestions?

Second: the stock is dry. Dry as only decades in the desert (and more recently in Alberta) can make it. The stock has been repaired once and I'd like to try to get some life back into the stock before taking it out. Thoughts on the best oil to use that combines good feeding without altering the colour of the stock too much?

Lithgow No1 mkIII and M1917

For the most part I'm a lurker, but this is a damn good thread to post on. Although technically I got these Sunday the 30th I figure close enough to April.

Here is my 1917 (1944 Factory Rebuild FTR) Lithgow No1 mkIII LE without export marks and full #s.
And my Winchester built Model 1917 Enfield (Built July 1918) with WWII RCAF Lend/Lease marks on what's left of the wood.

One of my new aquisitions for April: A 1944 Inglis Chinese contract Bren mk2 in 7.92, now deactivated of course. :(

There is a very good chance that my grandmother test fired that Bren before it left the Inglis plant in 1944... or knew the girl that did.

Either that... or soldered the mag.

Nice piece.
