OVS Mauser

Got this coming to me in the mail (I love the wait).

Received it yesterday. Very happy. Here it is with my other Boer Mausers.

It's a 1895 Boer Mauser from South Africa OVS=Orange Vree State

nice gun with personalized stock, a real piece of history.

Man that rifle looks strangely familiar to the Gewehr 71/84 (looks more like a Gewehr 71 and 71/84 hybrid) but not quite. Definitely a Mauser but what type ?

Steyr actually. They were made in 1886 for the Portuguese. Uses a 8x60mmR round. after tinkering with it and cleaning I've come to look at it as a 71/84 with a much much nicer finish , workmanship , and so much easier to reload.

got some older ammo from a CGN gent. I think Portugal sold some to the southern Chinese off Macao : some of the ammo is from 1920 and has chinese style characters on it too.

Correct on the model .

I got lucky with the bayo. member here was selling it , deleted the pm so i can't even give him a plus 1, he didn't know what it was and neither did I . find out what it is and then a rifle happens to be for sale.

paid 300$ for the pair in the end. Very happy with how that worked out.
