April Purchases

1873 Springfield Rifle 45-70 and a 1873 Werndl Carbine

They should be on there way next week.
Looking forward to getting the Werndl as I have never seen one close up.
Here is the info on the Werndl

Made by Osterreichische Waffenfabriks-Gesellschaft, Steyr, 1874-78
Quantity: 100,000
Caliber: 11x42mm, rimmed
Rotary-block breech, with an external hammer
1004mm [39.5 inch] overall, 3.25kg [7.2 lbs]
580mm [22.8 inch] barrel, 6-groove rifling, RH, concentric
Ramp-and-leaf sight graduated 200-800 paces
Muzzle velocity 445 m/sec with M1867/73 ball cartridge
M1873 saber bayonet
The one I purchased is as below
Accepted on November 6, 1874, the 'revised' or 1873-Pattern carbine had a low-profile hammer and a nose cap, but lacked barrel bands. One swivel was anchored through the fore-end and the other lay on the trigger guard. Adopted at the same time, the Gendarmerie Rifle had a single barrel band and accepted the 1854-type socket bayonet. It weighed 3.72kg.

I know this isn't a milsurp but I simply had to post pictures of my newest acquisitions that can go along with my Finnish M91. Considering both the rarity of the pieces and their collectibility, I think everyone will agree. The Finnish Mosin collectors are probably going to moan over this one but here goes. Today I acquired a Finnish canvas sling, SA marked with a hammer underneath and having shown signs of use in the field. With the sling, I also picked up an SA marked cleaning kit complete with SA marked pouch with another hammer underneath, brass cleaning brush, brass cleaning rod extension, handle base (fits my M91 Imperial marked cleaning rod too!!!), an SA marked oil bottle, and what looks like torn pieces of a handkerchief. I added in a muzzle protector, a D tool, and a handle from a surplus Mosin 91/30 kit to make the SA one more complete.

What was the price of the whole package ? $35 for both :D. It pays to go to gun shows with a few extra bucks in your pocket.

It's been a good month :)

(although neither have even been charged to my card, let alone shipped to my house yet :( )

I think I've seen this answered elsewhere, but those rings look like they put the scope rediculously high above the rifle... they have lower rings on them now right?

My April Purchase

Finally found the matching tripod for my REL 3 draw telesope. 1943 dated
(telescope is not sagging...just the image)

Now to find the stand for my 1 draw REL.

I am now the proud owner of a '43 Long Branch No4 M1*. She was in India for a good while and has the Ishapore screw, which I don't mind as I feel it gives history to the rifle.

I got my PAL 3 weeks ago, and I now have 4 guns, 3 of which are good old milsurp. It's been a good 3 weeks!!!

Gew 71/84 - almost totally matching... two screws with different but matching to each other serial numbers.

COVERED in oil and dirt, but suprisingly good condition. Firing pin got bent somehow... and missing the sling swivels and middle barrel band, but underneath it all is beautifully preserved wood and metal. I can't wait to get this gun back to the shop to refurbish it.

By the way, anyone know any details on these markings? It'd be neat to find out about it's history.

Marked 11.R.E.
1.192.

(What you're seeing here is the worst pitting on the gun mixed with flaking oil and gunk)

So far for me this month:

-unissued 1951 Tula SKS
-15 rifle Ukrainian SKs rifle crate
-Lee Enfield water funnel
-CZ858-2 Tactical plus some accessories for it.
-Factory 625 Chinese SKS
-6X POSP scope

Nothing too exciting, but I can post pics if anyone is particularly interested.
