Hey everyone, very new to shooting but not so new to firearms. Looking to buil an ar15 but not sure on how to acquire the lower receiver, been looking at brands in the states and have found what I want but have no idea if it's even do able or worth it with customs and boarder. Question to you awesome people is how would I be able to get a lower from a company in the states if possible.

Thanks in advance for any insight and knowledge

The lower is the "firearm", so you need to import through a company like irunguns or Prophet River... You're probably much better off buying up here as the import fees are steep.

There are ways to legally acquire an AR15-pattern lower from US sources, but by the time you have paid for the US export paperwork and the fees
to those who will arrange it, the price will be much lower to acquire from a Canadian source.

There are several vendors who pay to be business members of CGN that sell US and Canadian-source lower receivers, complete lowers and complete AR15-pattern rifles.

Yeah I kind of figured that it would be rough since its the "firearm" part of the gun. The company I'm trying to get the lower from is spikes tactical, how would I go about finding who may be able to get their products in Canada if any do?

I've purchased two lowers from Brownells. My most recent one, an Aero Precision lower, came to a total of $102.24USD.

AP lower: 62.99
Export fee: 10.00
Shipping: 29.25

Sorry for the late response.

Quite easy actually, just follow the import tutorial for Brownells. Apply for an import certificate and supply the paperwork that Brownells require. Send all the originals to them and wait. The process shouldn't take more than month.

You can request for the serial number from Brownells and start the registration process before the "firearm" arrives.

You have an RPAL already? And the skills and tools needed to assemble a rifle? Just curious, but it's not just a matter of assembly. Barrel requires headspacing for one.
According to Quester's site, they charge $499 to import a firearm. The Canadian import permit is the only thing you'll ever get from any government for free. Link is on the CFC site.

Barrel requires headspacing for one.

Care to elaborate... My understanding is the headspace is set during the manufacturing process once the extension is installed. Therefor, nothing you can do to alter it yourself as removing the extension turns the barrel into a paper weight since the odds of getting it back on at the same torque and same headspace setting would be near impossible. Hence why they are simply checked with a go, no go gauge to verify the possibility of out of spec parts.

Now buying a unfinished barrel and extension separate from one another... Sure. You better have tools and know what you are doing.

Plus 16% exchange, and probably 12% GST/PST if CBSA is in a bad mood... Unless there's a killer deal or something "special" I can't get here I think I'd just stick with Questar, Saskatoon Gunworks, etc...
