I hope someone can shed some light on this question. Why is the AR-10 with an 18.5" or longer barrel a restricted firearm?
I looked at SOR/98-462 PART 2 RESTRICTED FIREARMS Former Restricted Weapons Order subsection 2 The firearm of the design commonly known as the M-16 rifle, and any variant or modified version of it, including the (long list) and there is no mention of it.
It is not a variant, variant being a derivative model of an original and it is not a modified version of it. The AR-10 is the original for which all AR-15 style rifles are variants and or modifications.
Has anyone ever pursued this?
Thanks
Severus
