I'm toying with the idea of building an AR-10 but am not having much luck on finding any receivers either completes or an 80 percent. Anybody got any info on building one or would it just be cheaper to buy the S&W version???

Do you want to build an AR 10 or a .308 AR. An AR 10 is an Armalite, a DPMS is a .308 AR, they aren't the same and the receivers aren't interchangeable. You can buy both types of lowers, an armalite upper is almost impossible to find. Armalite barrels are stamped 7.62 Nato and can't be exported except to LEO's and the military. One shot Tactical just announced he has .308 lowers, although there seems to be some question if they are Armalite or DPMS copies. I built my own Armalite, and picked up an upper from Wolverine, but they are long gone and aren't coming back. If you are going to do a build I would advise you to source everything before you start buying, just so you don't get stuck with a half finished gun. One other thing to think about. You can build a complete car from parts, but it costs 3 times as much. Know what you want and price it both ways. 308 black rifles aren't as common as the .223 ones and it may be cheaper to buy a complete one.

Hmmmm, interesting. I was thinkin of a 308 AR but I didn't realize there were differences in them. Knowing now it might just be easier to just buy one.

They fit Armalite. :)

The question is about whether they fit KAC SR-25's (which they do), but what we haven't done is put a mag in them or fired them.

So, yes we do have lowers that fit Armalite, Noveske style uppers.

DPMS is curved at the back where the Armalite style is more angled.

.223/5.56 AR's fit together. Not all .308/7.62 AR's fit together.

The cheapest out there for the 308 AR is the Remington R25 which is a DPMS rifle. But it's in camo. If that doesn't bother you then it may be a consideration.

The 308 AR isn't as popular but it's been gaining in popularity the last few years. I suspect as people realize it's need and effectiveness in Afghanistan, Iraq etc.

Just a heads up guys looking into a 308 AR. There are three mag systems out there right now.

1) Armalite and Noveske uses modified M14 mags
2) DPMS, KAC, LMT, POF etc use the original AR10 mag system
3) Rock River Arms used FN FAL mags (Same as the RFB).

Interchangeability is a bit hit/miss.

I just ordered an AR10 lower from Wolverine (apparently won't get here for quite some time). They seem to have everything available or accessible to them for an Armalite build.

This is my baby. The lower My friend and I built from a block of alluminum. The upper is a DND trade in I got from wolverine for $750 including bolt carrier with a 24" match barrel. With a Magpul PRS stock and a Zeiss conquest 7-14 power scope. This gun absolutely loves 178 gr A max bullets and shoots MOA or better (if I do my part) I am considering going with a Giselle trigger for the spring/ I shoot this way more than my AR 15 and it's never had a ftf. I am considering putting together about a 16" upper, but with 4 .308's now it is damned expensive to feed.

Dogzilla...very nice indeed...the parts I've sourced already for the lower lend themself to a carbine setup but after seeing yours I'm really diggin' making it into a DMR type. Back to the drawing board...but at least I've got lots of time to figure it out.
