An AR-10 is restricted because of its being a variant of the AR-15?

I think I know the answer but need to verify. CFC website wasnt enough for my small brain I guess....

Thanks guys.

The original AR10's you see floating around are prohibited due to the fact they were auto (or now converted auto). There's rumored to be a couple of original semi AR10's in Canada that are non-restricted. The newer ones are classed as AR15 variants.

Restricted.

Thanks. Makes sense now.

Wolverine sells them, for one. They're around the 2k mark bone stock. I'm surprised more don't own them with the number of ar15's floating around. I've always wanted one but can never seem to rack up that amount of cash before improving or buying something cheaper.

there's a 99% chance your friend has the AR180b.

I believe the original ar10 is prohibited and the new ar10b in nonresticted.

Ar180b, the New ar10's are restricted as AR15 variants.

About a minute of grinding the in side of the action made it full auto and that is why it is prohibited.

I don't believe that's the case behind it's prohibition (strictly auto-converted auto prohibition) although I vaguely have "deja vu" pertaining to someone going into great detail about the simple engineering and ease of coverting the older ones to auto. I could be wrong.

There are rumors out there that there is a handful of original AR-10's that were produced as semi-auto ... But I've never been able to confirm it, I only came within sight of 2 of these in my lifetime, and both were converted auto (12(3) prohibited).

The vast majority of original AR-10's were selective fire converted to semi (prohib), the new ones are AR-15 variants and restricted. There are indeed rumoured to be a tiny number of original AR-10's produced as sporting rifles with no automatic fire capability, I highly doubt your friend has one. I would say it's more likely that he has some other rifle, or if it is an AR-10 that is not registered as restricted or prohibited, that the rifle is not properly registered. This would be very bad indeed.

More of us would own them. Except for the significant cost difference in both the system and the ammo to feed it.

Back in the 80's their was a company that had new semi-only receivers made for the U.S. market. I believe they only made a few hundred, and at the time they were very expensive, about a grand vs. a couple hundred for a G3. I doubt any came to Canada due to our laws at the time.

I believe the company was Paragon and they called it the XM-10. I wonder if these would qualify as non-restricted if you could track one down in the States.
