AR 15 (7.62x39)

I've got a half dozen of the 7.62 mags for my XCR and they've been flawless for function. The last couple rounds are a tight fit.

I put Magpul ranger plates on them and that makes them easier to handle.

I've got four 30/5 mags, 2 10 round XCR pistol mags, all are good.

The early C-Products mags were any issue, but only when shooting high capacity mags, that is to say, if you loaded 5-10 rounds, you're good. If you loaded more, you're screwed. We really can't test this in Canada ;).

The newer generations were good. The robarm forum has more details.

one was from model1sales and the other was a brand name, but for the life of me i can't remember.

there isn't enough material between the edge of the bolt and the locking lugs. the lugs just break off.

Yeah, I get that. But when it fails does it result in an unlocked ignition or is there enough of them left to keep it working safely?

Could you end up firing multiple shots with missing lugs?

the first one fired, made a funny return to battery, fired and then just jammed up.

the second one just made a mess. jammed the gun with the bolt partly open after it fired. that was a cluster to unfuk.

for 7.62 i now stick with the AR10, 700 or VZ

Thanks for the info.

If you had to guess would you say they were failing upon firing, rather than when locking into position?

Check out the new RRA LAR-47. Modified AR platform with proprietary "AK" style lower. Unveiled at SHOT and now listed on the RRA website. Might be a while before we see them in Canada, but would seem to solve the mag geometry issues related to the AR platform.
