Hey all,

I want to build a rifle that closely resembles a Vietnam era m16a1. I would buy the colt vietnam era rifle but I cannot find one for sale in Canada. Nor can I find any parts to do a build. Any input guys?

Thanks
Trevor

Canada Ammo sells correct .625 pencil barrels, ctc supplies has the right FSB. All the other parts you can get through EE, including A1 uppers. Irunguns can get you a nodak A1 lower. Colt SP1 rifles do come through on EE on a regular basis, $1000 to $1700.

If you're going for exact clone, good luck.
A1 lowers are next to impossible to find outside of Colt SP1's and Norinco CQ311's.

Your best bet is finding one of the above rifles in the EE or vendors that carry used rifles. They pop up every now and then.

A1 lower is available ish from nodak spud or brownells. With an export permit and import fee. Its almost a $600 lower. If you get the upper from them as well, then it can be on the same permit. But i believe the waitlist at Nodak right now is about 8 months.

Also do your research and see which A1 upper you need for your correct retro build. Some of the early colt 600 series does not have a forward assist. The later XM series, well depends on the variant, should have forward assist amd maybe either a tear drop or round F/A. The correct A1 dust cover is right now the hardest piece to get even if you have all the money in the world. But those are really minor detail.

The parts kits that Irunguns brought in pop up on EE from time to time. Generally a complete 70's kit minus barrel and lower, both of which are fairly easy to find.
