Hey guys,

I'm thinking of picking up an AR-15 this summer and was wondering if this was a collection only gun or if you can shoot this bad boy at the range.

Are shooting ranges that allow rifles cool or is this black rifle too "evil" ??

Thanks.

Rob

Yes and no...
There are some places than don't allow 'black rifles' ..
Galt Sportsman's club in Cambridge has a ban on restricted rifles on their 100 and 200M ranges....
I love to go (as a guest) and start a kuffufle when I uncase my Sig Black Special...it always generates an 'animated' dicussion when one of 'those in the know' come over and tells me that I "can't shoot that thing here!";)

Robstar,
All depends where you are located - specifically range rules.
Definitely a restricted firearms - so the range has to certified for that.

At the rifle range yes, but at the outdoor 200M handgun range, ala the 'restricted range' you can shoot AR-15 and restricted rifles there.

Great, thanks for the responses .. I'm in Toronto and will be looking to join a club around here (Aurora, Burlington or somewhere else close by).

Guess I'll have to check with the club .. outdoor ranges sound like a lot of fun and would be a blast with the AR-15

Just got a no go at the range I was thinking of joining (Aurora) .... does anybody shoot the AR-15 around Toronto ? Any ranges allow this gun?

Thanks.

Is there any valid safety reason for no black rifles or are they just to scary...:puke:

Try Oshawa Gun & Skeet club. They now allow restricted rifles on the range.

:D

To much work to get the rifle range verified for restricted. Also the old farts and hunters will have there own place to shoot with out us young bucks pissing them off.

You can shoot all restricted at the 200 yard outdoor handgun range aka the restricted range.

Nice, outdoor is probably more fun for that type of gun .. any good outdoor ranges near Toronto ?

Aurora doesn't allow ARs because they only have a 25yrd range ...

Anyone know if the Burlington range allows AR-15s?

AFAIK BRRC has a "if you can bring it you can shoot it" policy. I know StrangeDay is a member there and hes got some higher caliber toys.

Hate to dampen your range search, but last I heard Burlington has a pretty long wait list. Due to the low membership cost, location and 24/7 (tho many hours are reserved for their respective disciplines) I applied for the safety course in January and I still havent been called. I was told 3 months back then, still waiting. Anyways 50yard indoor is nice but during summer its nice to shoot outdoors.

check out the service rifle forum
as service rifle is mostly dominated by ar15s

and service rifle in Canada is older than Confederation.....no reason to support the sport:bangHead:

Hamilton Angling & Hunting Association in Ancaster has a 100 m rifle range, certified for restricted and a 50m handgun/ rimfire range as well as skeet and trap. It would be a bit of a drive for you but it's a nice place. The biggest downer is that centrefire pistol & rifle is only allowed on Wednesdays and Sundays. A lot of work has been done at H.A.H.A. to fix it up, especially the handgun range. There's also Guelph Rod & Gun Club which has great facilities as well.

Just join Burlington, they actually like black rifles. Galt is BS and they told me I couldnt get an ATT for my AR. I wouldnt be a member there no matter how nice it seems (and it is a nice place).

Uhhh who said that?

They have a 3 month probation period for ATTs, you need to attend some supervised shoots, get some signatures then after that you can get voted in.

Did they flat out say you could not get an ATT for your AR-15s because they are AR-15s? I know lots of guys who have AR's at Galt.
