AR-15 and the shooting range

Thanks for all the info ... I'll be joining Burlington, already submitted the initial form. How long does it take to get a response from BRRC?

Guess I'll be seeing some of you guys there!

I submitted something in ummmm... January. Still nothing.

IIRC they have 1500 members or something, and they are only accepting 15 new per month. (something I read in a thread here)

scotty, where you shooting in the meantime ? Did you get any response at all from that form on their website ? I want to at least know I'm in some sort of queue....

Yes and no...
There are some places than don't allow 'black rifles' ..
Galt Sportsman's club in Cambridge has a ban on restricted rifles on their 100 and 200M ranges....
I love to go (as a guest) and start a kuffufle when I uncase my Sig Black Special...it always generates an 'animated' dicussion when one of 'those in the know' come over and tells me that I "can't shoot that thing here!";)
I'm a member of the GSC and I use my AR at the restricted "Handgun" range which has 100 & 200yd ranges for rifle as well. The standard rifle range is where the restricted rifles aren't allowed.

Since when does a range have to "registered" for restricted ?
I fig you guys know what your talking about. but it just seems lame
I always thought a range was a range .......and was templated for up to a certain calibre (auto's excluded...) then you had no problem

a .223 is a .223 just as a 7.62 is a 7.62

on the ranges permit it lists what the CFO has approved the range for IE restricted non restricted PPC IPSC ect you cannot use the range for somthing not approved by the cfo

I never knew that
so you can take a cz858 to ranges that you can't take a cz 58 too ......wierd
sorry about the off topic question I guess it doesn't have to make sense to be law.
but really that might have saved me a problem in the future ......how did i miss that

thanks:wave:

Uhhh who said that?

They have a 3 month probation period for ATTs, you need to attend some supervised shoots, get some signatures then after that you can get voted in.

Did they flat out say you could not get an ATT for your AR-15s because they are AR-15s? I know lots of guys who have AR's at Galt.

Yah I heard that too, my buddy is a member at Galt and he said guys shoot AR's there. I guess if you tell them that you have one and you want to shoot it there they just give you a hard time. I c alled about membership and I was asked what I was interested in so I said rifle shooting. I was fine until I asked the question 'so when can I get my ATT and coime out to the range'. I was told I didnt need an ATT for rifle shooting so I explained what kind of rifle I was shooting (restricted). Thats when the guy began to act like a weiner. :bsFlag:

Not my kind of gun club, a gun club should let you shoot whatever they are allowed to let you shoot. Anything less is detrimental to the whole sport and the whole idea of having guns. IMO

I called in and talked to the only guy I deal with, Neil.

I just ran the question about holsters for handguns and he said technically he did not see a problem. As long as mag out, hammer up, safety on if possible. Got a Safariland 6304 on order, soon. :D

I then said, that I had a friend call in about membership and when he asked about AR-15s he was told he could not get an ATT. He asked me who said that and he would look into it when he had a name. He said that the guy probably said that he needed to get voted into the handgun section before getting the okay to use AR-15s, and the caller misinterpreted.

Anyways, AR15Meister, do you know who you were talking to on the phone?

BTW, you can shoot anything at Galt. Whats with all the Galt bashing?

I dont remember names but the first person I talked to there was a woman and then she transferred me to a man when I started asking about AR15's.

I remember the guy's exact word were, "we dont need too many rambo types around here"

No I am not joking, he actually said that. I just laughed and said thanks and hung up.

Forever.....

We've just converted to a "paper-less" application system on line, which is giving us some grief....mostly because I haven't had enought time to fix it. :bangHead: Also, the safety and training section is running on a wait list right now, and they are swamped. We're down a bunch of trainers too.

Running addtional session is not an option right now, we'd have to cancel other advanced scheduled weekend activies (ORA shoots, IPSC matches, Ponygirls etc) The back log will get resolved, probably by June. Hang in there, we'll get you shooting as soon as we can.

BTW, BRRC is a "run what you brung" club, approved for everything but full-auto. And we are very AR friendly too!:ar15:

There's a half dozen of us that shoot AR's regularly in the Wed night league. And AR's/M96/Sig/180b's are permitted during open shooting time.

Burlington Rifle&Revolver Club allows all restricted/unrestricted firearms & no caliber restriction except shotshells from shotgun, only slugs from shotguns! Sgt.Rock.

I have a fair idea of what happened here. Am I correct in assuming this wasn't a recent conversation perhaps a more than a couple months ago?

If so I am 98 per cent sure I know the people you were talking to. The phone at Galt rings in the office of the clay target cashier. The guy you spoke with was an employee of the club who managed the clay target fields. He isn't well versed in several aspects of the shooting sports.

While he might not know much about restricted rifles what he said about "rambo types" is bulls**t. If it's the same guy I am thinking of I had to straighten him out about the legality of a 14" pump gun when he told a shooter he couldn't use it on the five stand.

FWIW, the individuals with whom you spoke are no longer employed by the club.

What kind of safe r u looking at? I have to start my research on one soon! Why don't u shoot me(ha,ha) an email at ddriver@cogeco.ca? I can be more talk frank about things there Robstar? Sgt.Rock.
