I read on US forums about people buying an auto selector. It's cheap, about 10$ and you can get a third position on your selector (safe-fire-safe stock) or (safe-fire-fire modified).

Can't find any on Canadian dealers websites.

Is it legal here? Where can I buy one?
 
AFAIK, legal to install, as long as it is not coupled with all the auto parts, as well as the extensive modifications to the reciever. Importing may be an issue, but I have never ordered one, mainly because there IS NO PRACTICAL USE for that thrid setting in this country for civilian owned rifles.

Legal? I'm not 100% sure. An auto-sear is illegal but other than that I didn't think any of the specific FCG parts were prohibited themselves.

You, for sure, can't buy it from the U.S. Maybe you might find one in the EE if it is legal.
 
I don't think it is illegal per se, as long as the firearm doesn't have the internal parts to actually work in full auto.

That said: Why bother? If you are doing it legally, it will just be an extra cost to have a setting that will not work. Plus, if you ever encounter a fudd or god forbid a fuddish leo when you are using said rifle for civilian fun, you may have to spend more time than you'd hoped to educating them as to your rifle not actually being capable of going full auto.

I'm glad you feel qualified to decide for me what I need and don't need. I was feeling like that responsibility might be too much to handle today, but I see you have it covered.

Questar has carried them before and still has them for preorder. AFAIK, not prohibited at all. Purely cosmetic without the proper parts to go with it, as others have stated.

AFAIK the parts you have to worry about being prohibited are F/A capable receivers and auto-sears.

-edit- I'm not saying don't buy it, or you can't! Its just my opinion if you don't have that nice and fancy 12.x we can't exactly play. I apologize if I struck such a nerve with ya. As well, I meant the selector itself in semi-only rifle. Having it go the other direction for another "safety" just doesn't make sense to me.

I don't think an auto sear by itself is a prohibited device, is it? A lower receiver that can accept one, however, is.

you would be mistaken. The way the law is written you cannot possess any automatic parts regardless if they are installed or not. Parts designed for full auto are by definition prohibited devices. This issue was explored many times years ago when dealing with full auto bolts and carriers for AR's. Since they can be used and installed they were considered universal. Many years ago I believe Paul Mullin et al charged a guy with having either the auto selector/sear for either an M14 or an M1. It kind of funny if you know that all M14's were designed semi auto and the auto parts came in a baggie with each rifle for the user and military to install. M14's are prohibs but actually fit the definition of manufacture semi auto.

Really? Had I known that I would have bought their LPK.

The description from their site just says:

Correction. Safe, fire, and... nope. No fire. Unless you meant in a real free country.... Like North Africa!!!
