I have a S&W M&P 15 AR and I was wundering if I replace the 17 inch barrel with a 18.5 inch barrel will that make it a non- restricted riffle?

If anybody knows it will be great

Thanx

Not in Canada, black rifles are all scary so they are restricted because they look evil.
Wrong. Unless you were just being sarcastic...
The AR15 is restricted by name, but there are several black rifles that are non restricted. In fact, some of them look very similar to an AR15 such as the XCR and the JR carbine.

I have and XCR and its great Non-Restricted i just wuld like to be able to shoot my AR like i can with my XCR. insted of being stuck in the 20 yard indoor rang that is an hour and 40 min away from my home here in the GTA.

:bangHead:

Go to the Service Rifle section, look up the ORA matches. Do a search for "Hungry".
No need to be stuck on a 20y indoor range.
Your club ATT wouldn't be good for Borden anyway. Get an invite and a STATT for ORA matches.

Being sarcastic. I know there are other non restricted black rifles. I just don't understand how one is restricted and the others are not. Same cartridge, same mags, same scary black look. The RCMP I think pull straws when they classify firearms in this country, no consistancy or thought really goes into the process.

Stop or you will give yourself a tumor!

That is correct. They are clueless with no logic whatsoever behind their decision making. You will give yourself a brain tumor trying to figure this sh*t out!

Regards,

We should all know this story by now :) The AR was going prohib by name like the AK but was saved from sure death by the DCRA.

Had there been no AR's in Canada at the time and if it were imported now it would be nonrestricted with an18.5 barrel.

ORA is the best place to shoot the AR to its maximum effective range. The SR course is designed around the capability of rack grade AR so anyone can use their off the rack ARs to learn mid range skill.

Another option for Service Rifle shooting is with OSA. www.osacanada.ca. There is a two day match weekend after next. These will be the traditional matches 1 through 16. For a new competitor, these matches might be preferable; each match focuses on specific marksmanship skills. DCRA will be hosting the nationals (pistol/sniper rifle/service rifle) at the end of August, into September. Nine days of competition. Shoot one, two or all three categories.
For someone interested in investing the time and money, there is an intensive service rifle training clinic at MilCun all next week. If you have never experienced professional instruction, the improvement in your shooting will be remarkable.

Incidentally, the ORA is holding a Vintage Rifle shoot at Borden on the 24th of July. Shooting at 100, 200, 300y. Its not specifically SR, but an AR could certainly be used. Great opportunity to get out for a day's fun shoot. Contact the organizer through the ORA website, www.ontariorifleassociation.ca if interested.
