I noticed something I thought was a little disturbing today, my barrel on my new stag arms wiggles in the receiver a little. I figure this, can't be good for accuracy, and may even hurt the rifle, but I may be wrong.

What do you guys think?

should I buy a barrel nut wrench and action block and tighten it up so it doesn't move?

also, i noticed that barrel nut was easily (i mean very easily) threaded off by hand when I took the gas tube out, is this correct? Is it worth contacting arms east about? (I was planning on buying an action block and barrel nut wrench anyway...)

rifle has ~100 rnds through it

thanks guys

some one forgot to tighten the barrle nut when they put the upper togeather.
Just pop into one of the gunshops intown and get them to tighten it up, i,m sure just about all of them should have ar15 tools, its the most common restricted longun there is.

First buy the right tools. You'll use them again and again. There is a specific torque for the barrel nut I think. I just do it by hand keepng in mind the receiver is aluminum and can be wrecked with too much torque. Go to ar15.com to the build it yourself section.
There shouldn't be any play between the barrel and receiver.

I wouldn't bother AE. This is easily fixed. That's what I love about AR's! Even mechanical disasters like me can fix stuff.

Thanks for the fast response guys, I will order the tools right away and get cracking. I need an excuse to tinker anyway.

what is the best source for the tools, brownells?

or direct from a manufacturer?

thx

There are guys on this board who can supply them. Put out a feeler on the EE. I'm sure some of the dealers above have them as well.

You should not fire the rifle until the barrel nut is tighten up. AR is headspaced to the barrel extension.

The barrel nut needs to be torqued to 32-34 ft-lb IIRC.

You will need the upper action block and barrel wrench to do it. I use a torque wrench ( I am very anal when it comes to this kind of things) but some people just feel it.

I don't want anyone to be scared away from AE or Stag. It is a good product, and this is an easy fix (One which as you can see AE is more then ready to help out on). AE has great support for what they sell (as evidenced by the post above).

thanks again for the info guys
