AR-15 buffer retainer pin/spring issue

So I took my newly acquired Moss AR-15 to the range, only to have misfires, shell after shell. Took out the lower pin, only to find the buffer tube spring out of place, with the retainer pin wedged in the action, and the spring is completely missing? Pretty bummed that my trip was cut short however, does the buffer spring on the Magpul CTR stock, have to be in place(with the pin/spring) in order to fire off a round? Is it possible that the missing spring could be jammed up in the action, which would also cause the misfire? I’m pretty new to these rifles, so any advice would be most appreciated.....Mossberg jabs notwithstanding lol!!!

Cheers!

I incorrectly assembled my lower once when I was an AR newbie. The buffer retainer pin spring ended up getting wedged in the trigger group, causing the trigger to not reset. No bueno.

The buffer retainer pin/spring is not actually required for the AR-15 to function, it just prevents the buffer from shooting out when you take the upper and lower apart. The bolt carrier will hold the buffer in place when the receiver is assembled.

You might have to screw the buffer tube in another turn to properly retain the pin. There's a chance that one turn out won't retain it, and one turn in will bind it up. In that case... Might have to take a grinder to the buffer tube. Or get a different one. Oooor get an offset buffer retainer pin (Like this guy) to accommodate the buffer tube threaded in farther (I know that's not what it's actually for, but it might work if you poke it down under the buffer tube when it's threaded in? Maybe?)

Ha! After taking apart the lower on the bench, guess my missing buffer tube pin spring turned up......wedged right into the trigger assembly! Explains why I was getting the misfires? Anyways, looks like it’s all bent to hell, so I’m in store for a newer one. Will try your technique when it arrives. Thanks again!
