I was disassembling my bolt for cleaning (as always) and I noticed that the cam pin seems to have taken a real beating there is prob. .005 of wear on the faces where is rides along the cam in the bolt.
Is this normal?
Will post pics as soon as possible. If anybody else has a high round count rifle could you post high res pics of your cam pin.
Thanks,
Dave

Not sure about that pin, but I can tell you from personal experience that the pin used in the collapseable stocks is prone to wear and ultimate failure. I watched Moe off this forum get a bloody nose from his ar15 when the pin failed in the collapseable buttstock!!!

Cheers

It is normal. Also watch for bolt carrier cracking in the same area as the cam.

It should not be something noticable after a few rounds, but hundreds/thousands yes (the wear that is).

It usually wears in an eliptical/round pattern going vertical on the cam pin.

Just one of those things.

If you post pics would be easier to diagnose.

5 thou is quite a bit. Sounds like time for a new one.

Did you ever get around to taking pics ?

Wow epic thread resurrection record! I had my cam pin wear out enough to replace it on a Colt after about 50k. Probably could have gone another 50k but hey it was cheap and I had a spare. As for my nose Jay spoke of. I keep an eye out for those stock pins and buffer tubes wearing out. I am ugly enough and don't need a stock collapsing again on recoil which gets my nose smashed by the charging handle again. Oh wait, I can't shoot them anymore so it don't matter.

Cheers
Moe
