I have 2 FTFs today, definitely caused by light primer strikes.

Could this be the consequence of over lubricating?

Thanks,

You could spray CLP into your lower until it's dripping and everything will still work fine.

It could be some other lube thickening in the cold (assuming you were outdoors), or any of a number of other reasons including something obstructing the firing pin in the bolt channel.

I'm of the opinion that if you want to find out why something isn't working, you have to take it apart.
In this case we know it has something to do with the firing pin. Take your bolt and carrier out of the receiver and take it apart, examine all the components and clean everything thoroughly. It's a great way to learn much about your rifle.

I'm not sure there exists any type of primer an AR system can't ignite.

Well, I use CLP for most of the bolt carrier stuff, it was only -1 today and I've shot in much colder weather with my AR without a problem.

I'll strip down the bolt to take a look, its been inside for a while now though, so maybe nothing comes of that.

Thanks for the help though.

CLP will freeze too

Not at -1C, as the op indicated.

Also, while I think that the CDN military specifies a low-temp lube, according to MIL-L-63460, CLP is good from -51 to + 71 °C. I've only tried it to about -20C (a cold day last year), worked fine.

My bad I forgot to read "I give my self a :slap:" lol

Low temp gun oil is not standard CLP by the way

Checked the firing pin, everything is fine there.

Still not sure why this happened, I normally keep the bolt and carrier clean enough to function. Normally I run the bolt wet.

It worked flawlessly at the polar bear match I shot on Jan 30th as well.

Ya, that's what the manufacturers say about CLP. In -30, it gums up pretty bad if the weapon is left idle for many many hours. Simple solution is to use less (light coat on metal-on-metal parts) and work the action occasionally. The colder it is, the more frequently you'll have to do it to keep it working decently.

Although, this is based off my experience with C7A1s. There are ARs out there made with better materials to allow it for smoother action and humidity resistance in such weather climates (like ones with teflon-base finish, if such exist).
