AR-15/M-4 Pistol Legality

Would be really difficult to get grandfathered for a NEW pistol.. they had to be in country when the 12.3 (?) class was created

:D Yeah, got me there ... I was referring 'generally' to owning prohibs rather than any particular firearm.

Good to see our members are awake at the switch though. :)

Doesn't matter the laws are stupid.. as I was saying yesterday the mags laws for handguns are an epic fail... If you think about it... I can change mags in about 1 seconds and I can carry maybe 10 of them... What 's the difference between 10 to 17 rounds... (less then 6 seconds on 100 rounds)

Do you feel safer now..

The Carbon 15 and LWRC Pistol are just AR15s.

The Swat Pistol is full auto, so it's prohib in Canada 'cept to those Grandfathered with Class 12(2) FULL AUTO on their Firearms License.

Grandfathered status allows you to possess and acquire prohibited firearms that are already registered in Canada, but not to bring a prohibited firearm into Canada as a new import.

Here's a list of what is prescribed as Restricted and Prohibited Firearms in Canada. It's the RCMP website. Look for yourself. While there, explore other firearm laws available for your perusal.

Hold on there, from what the manufacturer's site said, the 556's action is a semi-auto action...not full auto...and are you saying that I CAN get the Carbon 15 & the LWRC Pistol to Canada given that they are both semi-auto action and defined as a pistol or there's another reason...

the 556 is considered a variant of the 550 I believe the is is not allowed in Canada...

I don't think LWRC has export permits... There is more to getting a firearm into Canada then just getting it into Canada.. You have to get it out of the country it's in...

I believe that there are some Carbon 15's in country already... I don't know who brought them in or how many....

You really need to learn a lot more about these things.. These are supposed to the FAQ's not every newb's fantasies...

Once you get your PAL do some reading....

CFC/RCMP recognize the difference between AR-15 Rifles and AR-15 Pistols. They have created specific FRT #'s for a number of different AR-15 Pistols and classified those firearms as "Handguns" rather than "Rifles".

The Bushmaster Carbon 15 Pistol has been available in Canada for quite some time and is classified and registered as a "Handgun"

The LAR-15 and LAR-9 are also available in AR Pistol ("Handgun") versions and have their own FRT #'s... we've been selling .223, 5.56, 6.8 and 7.62x39 versions of the LAR-15 Pistol for quite some time.

We also classified and registered a quantity of CMMG AR-15 Pistols as well, though we are not handling that product line at the present time.

PWS has just released their own line of complete firearms and we are in the process of having both a RIFLE and HANDGUN FRT# setup for those guns (in various calibres).

There are lots of AR-15 "Pistols" available in Canada and have been for some time.

One of the guns you specifically asked about was the SIG556 Pistol... we submitted that gun for classification nearly 2 years ago and unfortunately it was ruled (by RCMP Tables Section) to be a "variant" of the SIG550/551 which is a named prohibited firearm... therefore they classified the SIG556 and all variants (both rifle and pistol) as "Prohibited Firearms".

Just this past Friday we received the FRT # for the S&W M&P 15-22P "Pistol" which is the handgun version of the S&W M&P 15-22 Rifle.

So if there are 7.62x39mm versions of the LAR-15 pistol, when can we expect to see 10 round magazines for those in stock?
