AR 15 Mags Tapco vs PMag

Only thing I would have to knock the Gen II's is that they don't like the too cold or too hot climate's and try not to drop them too much. Other than that they are all right. Not battle tested but perfectly fine for the range. Although the price would still leave me to get PMags but hell to each there own. At least you are buying from a true stand up dealer.

Is this from personal experience as far as the climate and the breaking from drops? Just curious because everything I have read so far points to the opposite although there is limited evidence due to how new the GenIIs are.

Before say that, do you allready try or see a Tapco mag ?

Magpul Pmag 5 rd are not made by compagny, they don't care about Canadian market, Tapco made the 5 rd in factory for us, yes for us, they are Canadian friendly, happy to see one US company work for Canadian market.

Fabrice
You make a very good point.
The fact that Tapco has made a mag that we can buy at a good price is very good of them, any company thats willing to take time for the canadian market is worth our money.

I have and use the Tapco AR magazines. They work quite well.
The original ones fit right to the magwell size and had to be taken out as they would not drop free. I understand the newer ones are made a hair smaller to drop more easily. They should be as trouble free. Fabsports, thank you. I was wondering how they were pinned, now that I know they are made specifically for us I will definitely get a packet.

By the way, when will the SAW grips be available in black?

No, I don't think I will ever drive a truck over any of my firearms or accessories to try them out.

Yes....

Follower: We’ve redesigned the follower to allow more dirt and grime to pass than any other mag on the market. This allows the mag to keep feeding ammo, despite loose dirt or sand that may have entered the magazine. The follower continues to be an anti-tilt design, so you don’t have to worry about jammed or vertical cartridges in the mag. We have made the new follower dark earth colored so you can easily distinguish between the Gen I and Gen II versions.
Spring: The single most improved part of the mag, the GenII magazine features a spring with more Mil-Spec qualities than the original. Now made of premium 17-7 Stainless Steel, the spring has a new shape for smoother, quieter loading through all 30 rounds. No more extra effort needed on those last few rounds. The changes in spring tension also reduce overall stress on the mag body, preventing spine cracks, which plague other composite mags.
Drop Free: The GenII mag puts a stop to the rare drop-free issues that some users experienced with the original mags. Other changes made to the GenII mag ensure the feed lips don’t spread; a common problem for non-metallic mags. The GenII mag now offers the most consistent fit and performance among all composite mags.

Hi all...

a little off topic, but if the LAR 15 mags are rated for 9mm, do they work with the .223 / 5.56 ammo? or are you shooting 9mm out of your ar-15?

Sorry if this is a stupid question, bit of a newb to the whole ar-15 game.

I bought my LAR15 mags from Questar(banner above). You can buy 10 round LAR15 mags originally designed for .223 pistol that fit in ARs. That's what I have.

Tapco mag's are generally not that great. I've seen then going for sub $5 per mag in private sales however. At sub $5 a mag, for mags I would have to pin/block to 10 rounds... I dont mind.

That being said, The PMag's are the best mag i've ever seen. They are extremely durable (See: Truck Test, Frozen Test, Shots through mag test, etc). They also don't have issues with the feed lips wearing (at least I've never seen it happen).

I could go on about why PMag's are generally the best.

At the end of the day, If your going to have to Pin/Block the mag to 5 or 10 rounds. I honestly think price comes before just about anything else.

Can you elaborate on this? Are you speaking about the latest generation?

TIA

LOL!!!
@ the 16 second they slow roll right by and don't even touch the mag's!
HAHAHAHA!!!
And Yes I only speak about personal experiences.

Now I know you are talking out of your a$$. :p They run over all the mag lips and the mags still function fine. The first one on the far left even moves to a new spot as it is run over.

For the problem with GEN I this is more details I get from Tapco :

The Gen I / Gen II mags only matter with 30rds. The problem with Gen I mags is that in extreme heat (54.44 C), when fully loaded with 30rds, the feedlips at the top would spread. But with 5rds, that will never happen. With 5 rounds, though, it really will never be a problem. Especially in Canada with colder weather

PMag is really the only choice. We have them in all three colours.

Magpul has a couple years of Hype and Marketing over the Tapco.

Tapco should have offered a lower price point to to make people want to try them out.
for example. $25 each. 4 Tapco for $100 vs. 3 magpul for $105

(yes I know they offer a multi-buy option)
