Hey Guys,

Just got a huge tax return today and looking to invest it in an AR-15. I am not sure which one to go with. I was at Ellwood Epps and looked at a Norinco and I couldnt stand the finish on it... it was just awful. They also had a Imperial Defence Ar-15 and it looked great. Any suggestions for me?

Thanks.

Invest? hahaha

I dont mind spending money on guns, but I NEVER think of them as investments, especially restricted black rifles.

As for your question, I have no idea. Get an HK SL8-4.

haha Well i say investing cause i am in the process of convincing myself that its a good idea to spend $1500-2000 on a restricted gun that i can only use at a gun range lol

You could go for a Bushmaster. Moderately priced and a decent manufacturer...one of the ABC manufacturers of ARs, the other two being Armalite and Colt (not to neglect Stag and RRA).

Maybe you could find a good deal on the EE?

Black rifles could actually be an investment. The prices aren't going to be coming down, and if there are future restrictions on their import into Canada, they would probably appreciate in value, imho.

You might be right about the future restrictions; a guy at the gun shop just told me that the adjustable stocks for the AR-15 are now banned from being shipped into Canada. You guys know anything about this?

Investment..........Spend the $4000.00 and get the HK carbine,be the only one on your block with one! Rock River Arms would be the one to purchase. Questar is here in canada,so no problem getting parts etc. Allso there 10 rnd. mags.

You won't find this opportunity everywhere:

a genuine 10.4" HK416 upper

If I was in your exalted position, I'd call Blue Line and see if they've got any of those 10.5 LMT's left. Premium quality, short barrel and actually a pretty good price.

If you don't want to spend $1500+ on North America made AR, then go with the Norinco M4, feel the same, looks the same, but the finish is not as good as the US ones. Look on the bright side, a quick paint job will fix that, I saw one repaint in 1 of the vancouver dealer, it looks as good as the Colt AR after the paint job.

Let's try and keep as much of the money in Canada as we can. How about Dlask firearms. They do AR-15s and 1911 that are completely Canadian made.

The more Canadian made products we all buy, the more products the manufacturers will be willing to sink their money into. I think we all can figure out how that benefits all of us in the long run.

I just bought a S&W M&P15, the finish is fantastic, and the gun is tight. No play what so ever between upper and lower, M4 feed ramps and many other mil-spec type features that Stag, Bushmaster, River Rock and Armalite don't have. (see page 45 of the Guns & Ammo Combat Tactics Magazine summer issue)

Hey that's new...they didn't use to do that!

Interesting...I wonder what else they've changed? Also what are the ramps like where they hit the upper receiver? Like is there a lip there or is the receiver cut down to fit the ramps?

Let me think...still a 1:9 barrel I assume.

What is the front sight base? F stamp or no?
What is the staking like?
Mil-spec or commercial buffer tube?

That's really interesting...makes me think they must have improved a bit since I first heard about them.

Ian is right. That is the way I would go. I had an LMT upper that was excellent...

There is the added bonus of it being 10.5" barrel too (if you love the shorties). I am curious if it is LMT barrel though. I thought export controls made it bloody impossible to bring them in. Rebarreling an imported 16" Defender 2000 here would bypass that. I'll call BlueLine and see what they say about that...

Either way you can't go wrong with LMT.
