AR-15 Newbie seeking advise

I am just about to purchase an AR-15 and I have a few questions that I am hoping that someone might be able to help me out with.
1) I understand that Colt is the maker to go with. Dose anyone know of a Canadian Colt Dealer? If I can not get the Colt I have been looking at Stag.
2) I am a left handed shooter and am wondering how advantages it is to get a Stag left handed model? Is it just a selling feature? I have been shooting right handed semi-auto's all my life and have not had any problems BUT I am new to the AR-15.

Anyway hard call .......what do you want to do?
If you want to shoot comp esp service rifle etc you might want to take note of where the rest of your gear is going to be a friend of mine has one of those wierd deviant rifles and he likes it It was a agood shooter too. it your really stuck with your left hand .........go for it. IMO
but on caution........you might want to check on interchangeability of parts with right handed models your bolt with be different for example ( and they are most righty's outthere)

Thank you. It has been a long day. I am looking for pleasure shooting right now. I am not stuck on the left handed model.... Is there any issues for left handed shooters using a right handed AR-15? As for the rest of the gear I am still researching what i want to get. I am always open to ADVICE from knowledgeable people.
 
Apparently Colt doesn't sell to Canadian civilians, but lots come up on the equipment exchange.
Armalite, bushmaster, Stag, RRA, LMT and some other abreviations I don't remember are fine for range use.
All my brass went between 4 and 5 oclock so I can't see it hitting you. I can imagine it could be a distraction though.
 
I am a left handed shooter, and have never had a problem shooting an AR.

Personally, I'd get a right handed AR, just because it'd be easier to resell down the road. Any of the brands prproulx mentioned would be good choices. I own, have owned or have shot all of them.
 
Shoot a left and a right back to back and see what you think.

I've never seen a lefty AR shooter shoot a Stag-15L, and not want one afterwards.

Commonality? It's a different upper receiver and bolt assy. Big deal.

In theory, it's safer too.


The easy way to say it to right hand shooters is, if the AR15 was designed as a lefty rifle in the first place, that's all was ever made. Your open left eye was behind the ejection port, and cartridges ejected to the left in front of your left eye, would you really not buy the right hand ejection model today if someone came out with one or would you continue having the ejection port in front of your left eye?

I'm a lefty as well, and like the fact I can see the bolt position and into the chamber without having to cant the rifle on a regular AR.

If I was a right handed freak of nature, I'd consider getting one of the Stag left handed versions for this feature alone.
 
forget colt, don't be a brand whore like everyone else is becoming. All the other stuff available will suit your needs just fine and isnt of any lesser quality

The T models are in limbo due to a legal decision against the rail's manufacturer. I hear things, but nothing concrete, about what will become of it. We don't expect to have any factory T rifles any time soon. In the meantime, we have been sourcing other rails at customer request.

All the 15L carbines are the same basic model, flattops, with different detachable rear sights, and in the case of the T, a free float railed forearm.

I have a 16" left handed Stag carabine. Yes I'm a lefty :) and all I have to say its great. Reliable no malfunctions to report in 600 rounds so far. Great carabine.

You can't go wrong with a Stag.
 
Dangertree what can you tell me about the trigger. I have read a revied and the stock trigger was not rated very well. I was only able to find the one review and I do not know weather to take with a gain of salt or not. I noticed that there was a two stage trigger on the Arms East web site and would like to know it if it worth while.
 
One review of an stock AR15 trigger generally isn't indicative of much. There is always some variability unit to unit.

Lot's of people use stock AR15 triggers. Sometimes some people come to a point where the hit the limitation of the trigger for their particular application, and either work on it or spend the cash on a match type trigger, when spending cash on a match type trigger, it can go from pretty reasonable to pretty expensive, you often get what you pay for.

Whether or when really depends on what you're up to with the rifle, and how much you like or dislike the particular stock trigger rifle.
 
That is what I thought 1 review is not worth putting too much faith in.
The 2L model that you posted the picture of earlier in the thread is that for sale?
 
Go to the Questar link, get the Rock River Arms LAR15, for 1349 or something. 16" midlength. I did. Been shooting AR's C7a1, a2 C8FTHB's and all that for about five years, and the RRA is effin incredible. Really accurate, really sweet to shoot.
You will not regret going with them
