Im fairly new to shooting and have just recently acquired my first AR. It is a Windham Weaponry SRC.

At first I was looking into some red dots but after some thought, I didnt want to be limited to close range shooting. My purpose of use would be some close target shooting at approx 25m if I'm just at my indoor range with a friend just showing him the rifle but I would also like to get out to around 200-300yards when im at the outdoor range.

Are there any "middle of the road" optics that you would suggest? Maybe 1-? Power

Would a scope at 1x even be useful at 25m or would you think a combo of iron sights (for indoor) and a scope (for longer range) would work?

Random info: Im hoping to get into 3 gun down the road and Ive been liking the Vortex optics but open to all suggestions!

Pls help!

The 6x might be nice, but the Bushnell uses FFP, and as such the BDC reticle is dead on at all magnification, whereas the Vortex is only on at the full 6x. Might make a difference to some.

Depending on what level of accuracy you're after, a reddot is more than capable at 300 yards. More details on what type of shooting you're into would help. Although a low power variable like 1-4/5/6/8x is a solid go compromise but it often comes with the penalty of weight.

A fixed 4 power is a great option. The ar is a stable shooter and very accurate. A red dot will get you on paper at 300 , a 4 power will get you cantered nicely on that paper
I bought a variable 1-4 initially for mine, then flipped to a trijicon ACOG. The trijicon is fixed, with a bdc lit reticule. I can shoot with both eyes open up close and focus in for long shots.

I use a BSA fixed 4x tactical seems to work alright......mil dot reticle....even comes with a mounting cover for a SKS...not bad for $100

I run RDS on my black guns as they aren't target rifles. Toyed with getting a 1-4x Elcan. Cost and weight were a factor esp since my AR is a 10.5" only.
Saw the Bushnell AR 1-4. In the short time I looked at it ( on a PEPR mount), I would defintiely buy one if I got a 16" AR. For its price, the unit seems rugged, the optics are clear enough for the intended purpose and the 1-4 toggle is easy to use.

Most important thing to determine when optic shopping is budget.
Tell us how much you want to spend, then we can give you some more accurate suggestions.

Currently have the AR Optics 1-4x PCL Throw Down kits on for $299 +tax/shipping.

You get the 1-4x PCL Throw Down scope, a 20 pack of Bushnell targets, and Millet Tactical 30mm medium height rings (worth $69) all for $20 (or more) less than most places sell the scope on its own.

For under $500 I would go with a Hi-Lux CMR 1-4 from wolverine. Great glass, zero-stop, calibrated BDC reticle, illumination. Can't go wrong for $400 and leaves some cash for a one piece mount.
Optical clarity, features and the reticle blow away the Bushnell.

I am a big fan of both the strikefire and spark. Good glass for the money and the warranty is awesome.

Decent battery life for no frills red dots.

I'm running a Vortex Sparc II on my client shooter; Aero Precision lower and Motiuk upper with NEA 10.5" barrel and BCG. I've even taken this SPARC II out hunting for deer season last fall. :)

On my Colt Canada personal shooter, I'm running an ACOG TA31F (but that's MY shooter so I don't mind the $1K optics).

My clients all love the SPARC II... it's working so well for a variety of new shooters!

What's not to like with the inexpensive and value filled Vortex fun?

Cheers
