Like you know, i have a AR-15 with an EOTech 511 for sight. the question is, do i need absolutely to fix my sight a little bit higher than my flat top rail? and when you say co-witness, what does it mean, i have to use the rear and the front sight with my EOTech or just the front one or what????appologize for these questions,it's my first Ar...

je possede un AR-15 avec une mire EOTche 511. dois-je absolument fixer ma mire sur une autre picatiny rail sur mon flat top pour le remontée un peu oubien directement sur mon flat top cela fait l'affaire? et quand on dit co-witness cela veut dire que l'on doit utiliser la mire EOTech(dans mon cas) avec la mire arriere et celle du devant toutes ensemble??
désolé je ne m'y connais pas vraiment et c'est ma premiere AR-15
 
I'm assuming you have a fixed front sight post...?

You can mount your EoTech as low as you want, the problem is that your front sight post will be "in the way" of your dot.

Co-witnesed means that the dot in your EoTech will "sit" directly on top of your front sight post if you take a sight picture through your iron sights while looking through the EoTech. Even when set up this way, you don't have to align the dot and your iron sights to use the EoTech... it's just a useful setup if your EoTech stops working... your irons and your EoTech will be setup for the same point of impact (at whatever yardage you've sighted them in at).
 
Tu peux monter ton Eotech direct sur la rail. Mais il se peut que tu trouve la mire avant un peu encombrante. Tu n'as pas besoin d'avoir un "co-witness" pour tirer juste. Peu importe ou tu regarde dans ton eotech l'impacte sera la ou tu met ton point.

foxracing, your eyes may be different than others. You can mount your eotech however you like, the lower it goes the more you will see the front sight of the rifle, but since the eotech is designed to be shot with both eyes open the sight intereference should ghost out, meaning it really should not interfere at all with you being able to get your rifle on target. As for cowitnessing, that means your eotech sight line will be lined up with your BUIS, not sure why folks do this as the two sighting systems are designed to be independent sighting systems. I will never cowitness as too many variables are introduced which can cause the user to rely on false information, never a good idea, unless you are simply plinking and want one more thing to tinker with.

Negative. Co-witnessing is a great idea and easy to do.

All you do is sight the rifle in with the irons. Then mount your Eotech and sight it in for the same distance.

Voila. Your irons are co-witnessed with your optic.

My irons flip down, but even if they don't, just watch the Eotechs reticle, ignore the irons.

If you lose battery power you can continue using your irons with the same POA as your EoTech was.

Very easy and effective.
 
When shooting properly with both eyes open, you will not notice the front sight anyways. Co Witness is nice but it doesn't matter at all where the EOTech is mounted as long as it is zeroed.
