What is a piston retaining spring?
It would help if that part name existed. Maybe a parts diagram and tell us which part?
Do you mean buffer retaining spring? To keep the buffer and spring in the buffer tube? Sits under a buffer retainer (cap)? You’d have lost it while installing the buffer tube?... couldn’t be that I guess, it’s not a piston. Don’t be mad at us if you don’t know what the parts are called, they won’t know what you’re talking about over there either lol. If you want to learn let us know.

After all that, I still might send you the spare I have.

What brand of gun are you talking about? AR-15's don't normally have a piston and if they do it's a proprietary part from the manufacturer.
So no, no one can take two minutes to measure a spring that you are not describing properly and non one knows what you are talking about.

I think the OP is asking about the spring in a piston driven AR. Don't know for sure because OP sucks at describing what they're actually looking for. If it's for a piston driven AR it's probably some nonstandard spec that's different between each manufacturer.
Pretty much sums up my thoughts on this. We have someone who asks about a part that doesn't exist, then gets huffy when no one replies. Very odd. The closest thing to a piston spring in an AR is the recoil spring, but I've never heard of anyone losing one - not saying it isn't possible, just that I've never heard of it.Tarrantula

How about cool your tits? You didn't give the model of the piston driven AR, considering 90% of the AR15s out are DI. So we are suppose to guess what piston upper AR you own?
Then wondering why you're not getting any help...
