AR 15 Prohib???

One of the criteria for prohibiting a firearm was the determination of its lack of "legitimate" sporting use. When presented with evidence that the DND (AKA: Federal Government) was not only providing ammunition for AR15's but assisting in sanctioned Provincial Rifle Association shooting events, the gov't had no choice but to back down on prohibiting the AR.

My point exactly.

Not actually that difficult. :D Simpler than the AK, which is Prohib.

Grizz

The drop-in auto sear will only work in older lower receivers. The newer lower receivers are machined to be semi-auto only. It is possible to mill the lower so one could fit, not the easiest of conversions. There is another method to convert new AR15s to full auto that is dead simple; LL.

:sucks:

Not only is this completely un-true, it is exactly what the anti's want to hear when they come on here and read this site as we all know that they do.

Converting an AR or any other semi-auto firearm to full auto is not easy, 99.9% of firearms owners wouldn't know where to begin. And once they figured it out they would need a machine shop. Plus if they wanted it to work worth a damn they'd need factory specs, unless they planned on building pieces from scratch and then just guessing on the precise measurements and hoping everything functions. A lot of precise s**t for your typical person to accomplish.

Do us all a favor and don't give the anti's any more stupid ideas.

I have had fellow shooters at the range tell me my AR is illegal and once one older gentleman told me that "if I don't put it away right this minute he will call the police!"
I showed him my cert for the rifle and told him to go ahead and call the police. He walked away angry. You would think anyone with a PAL would know firearms classifications?

Google lightning link. It isn't a secret. Dead simple; the truth shall set you free. The ease of semi to full auto conversion should not be a factor in restricting or prohibiting a firearm. It is a criminal offence to do so and not much different than removing a rivet to restore a mag to normal capacity. Law abiding firearms owners don't break the law and shouldn't be punished for the actions of criminals.

You shoulda told that greasy old fudd to go #### himself! I would've reported him to the club as well, that's boarder line harassment.

Okay, here we go again. I agree that this kind of talk only serves to give the anti's ammo to push for more gun control. Why do you insist on giving this to them?
To convert a semi auto AR15 one needs to have a machine shop, extensive gunsmithing knowledge and the parts or ability to make parts in order to do so. Sure, there used to be some parts on the USA market that claimed to do this but again, they aren't available so one would need to make them which again would require extensive knowledge to do so. Considering most folks have a hard time with the simplist of gunsmithing tasks this would be short of impossible to do.

I was down town at my local sporting goods store when the topic of AR 15s came up. Two of the customers said they had read a statement saying the AR 15 is headed for the prohib list. Can this be true or is it more paranoid banter surrounding the cancelling of the long gun registry. I've read another thread on CGN regarding the CZ 858 and that rifle also came up in conversation today. I thought the death of the LGR was supposed to be a good thing. WTF over!!!

Hey!!!!!!! I was down at the gun store the other day and I heard that bill C-19 was defeated in the Senate and that there is going to be a total firearms ban with full seizure of all current firearms in Canada. Further, any mention of or drawing of firearms will be punishable by a term of 15-20 years in prison!!!!!!Laugh2

There is too many out there to put it on a prohib list. Look at AUG I think there was something like 1200. I might be wrong. But it wasn't a significant number. So they throw it on the prohib list. Not too many people were kicking and screaming. The more that are out there the harder it is to prohib.

It doesn't help the antis one bit. It only proves that despite being possible there is very little abuse or violations of the law. Not a lot of machine guns out there, not a lot of people shooting with full capacity magazines even though nothing really to stop them from doing so. If any of the SMALL number of people willing to break the law, do so then use the existing laws to punish them.

The antis can't escape the fact that normal law abiding people are trust worthy when given some responsibility. You'll never stop a determined criminal. That's what the police and justice system is for. Not demonizing the common man.
