Ar-15 quad picatinny forerail system

I'm pretty sure all rail systems attatch with a new barrel nut. Just to the reciever would be pretty weak.

As such, you must remvoe the front sight, gas tube, and old barrel nut.

Some attach to the existing barrel nut and don't require front sight removal(eg, KAS RAS II), and some provide a new barrel nut and do require the front sight to be removed.(eg, PRI & Larue).

It would help to know what rail system you are installing, or thinking about.

Some specialised tools are required for removing the barrel nut and/or barrel.

Hey Skullboy...what about the Surefire rail system? Does it attach without removal of the front sight and with the existing barrel nut?

The Surefire goes on without having to mess around with the front sight or barrel nut. It's actually easier to install that the normal plastic handguards. It's Held in place by a couple of hex screws that tension it apart.
