The AR-15 has been Restricted in Canada since 1977 , in 2020 the Govt. (Lib.) moved the AR-15
to the Prohibited classification.

Leading up to the June deadline there was a rush of purchases to the tune of 80,000 units .

I was asked numerous times by the LGS if I wanted one or more , I declined
the main reason was not registering and alerting the authorities to
my possession of Prohibited weapons.

Do you regret buying the AR-15 ? addendum - in the 2020 rush.

I was working on Norinco AR-15 and Norinco M-305B, often stripping, rebuilding and either selling or trading them and the left over parts: when the announcement happened I just happened to be in a lull and had no AR-15 or M-305B at the time. I decided not to rush to replace them.

I do and I don't regret it. I regret the law in 1977 restricted them and I regret the O.I.C. Bull Sheet in 2020 as well. I regret we live in such a f'd up world where this insanity happens.

I don't regret having known the pleasure of owning such tools. I also don't regret that some other people can enjoy the tools I sold them.

The AR15 was restricted in 1977 then made non-restricted in 1979 by Joe Clark's PC's only to be put back to restricted by Jean Cretin in the 90's.
It was actually Kim Campbell leading the country for the PC's that did that in 91, not JC and the Libs. I know as I registered them being a good young man that wanted to play safe. Anyone got a time machine I can borrow?

Cheers

Kim *spit* Campbell, a true CINO, was Minister of Justice in 1992 when the OIC's came into effect from Bill C17. My memory from those days is a little foggy. PM Big Chin was in charge though, so we both stand corrected there.
I don't consider Progressive Conservatives real Conservatives so that's probably where I got confused. 🫣

C17 was really just a warm up for C68...

(...I'm too lazy to Google this stuff up, so I could still be wrong on dates lol)

You have till the end of October so make a decision then and don’t worry about all the bull #### for now.

Del Selin couldn't get enough AR-15's in June 2020 , the question
is to the buyers in early 2020 , what were the thoughts of getting
a soon to be Prohibited firearm .

The reason why I didn't get one was to keep out of sights , Literally .

Registration always leads to confiscation. In 2020 there were lots of good non restricted options. There will be more in the future. The way Canada bans individual makes and models instead of banning specific characteristics (like many us states) guarantees that more will come along. Then be banned under the next liberal government, then it will happen all over again.

TV press pass even reviewed my first AR. Ripped into it, till found out it was a quality piece.

I took it up to Pops in Petawawa and we trained with it getting more skills, before going overseas. Pops just hammered me thru drills and drills.
