What makes a good AR 15?
Is it better to look for L.e.o. lowers?
Are there bcg's that you should try to get?
are there trigger groups that work better then others?
Are there Barrel Manufactures that ppl should stay away from?
what spare parts should be kept on hand?

thanks for helping a newb

IMO.

Stick with Colt, LMT or Stag.
What's LEO lowers? The ones with LEO markings? Makes no difference.
Trigger groups all works the same unless you get into aftermarket match triggers.
Keep a spare bolt perhaps? How many rounds do you shoot a year to worry about replacing bolts anyway?

Unless shooting from a bench for some reason, it is mostly the shooter, though a FF handguard is a big plus.

No.

There are lots of failsafe-type gucci carriers, but so long as you get a full circle, you are prob good.

geissele are king from what I've seen. There are lots that are good though. Even the trigger that came with my norc lower is fine once I polished it.

I wouldn't worry about that a bunch. Pick the AR size/shape that you want to shoot, buy from a reputable brand and shoot it. It will probably be fine. If not, a Krieger is a couple hundred away.

Ammo mostly. I am several thousand rounds (but not enough) into my Remington R-15, and nothing has broken yet. I carry a spare bolt/bolt carrier in my range bag though.

My theory is find a cheap lower...i.e. Blue line, spikes wher on sale at questar, a decent trigger. I have and armalite seems to work just fine, and whatever upper you want. I went with a dlask because they are decent price and have had nothing but top notch work from dlask.

what AR???

All you need do is flip through the forums and it will be clear " Dont Buy NORINCO" They source pieces from the cheapest manufacturers possible and you will always have trouble replacing parts as some don't Fit on or in Norincos ie:mags, stocks, pistol grips, rails etc....Oh and most gas blocks.Add $300 dollars to the price of a Norinco and you got a good basis to start. Norinco should have stuck with building SKS's and such. Splurge and get an ATRS lower and any upper. Colt,DPMS,Stag,Lmt all good as well

Thanks for the ideas i was looking at a Stag, areo, or blueline. the stag is a complete lower for 250 -300. fixed stock.
there is a three gun comp happening this weekend. if its happening on a reg basis i would like to do it.

here is barrel length that i'm looking for 16 to 20 gas block to start with. then if need be go shorter. so running and gunning little bench shots.-

I owned a Colt AR 15-HBAR in the past. Is a stock Colt hard to find these days? Price? Just getting back into shooting. Feel like I just came out of a Coma. I see lots of nice toys out there but wish I had my work in progress Colt back. Moving forward any help would be appreciated.

Actually, no you won't find that in these forums, unless you restrict your reading to posts written by people who haven't actually owned a Norinco M4. The Norc M4 shown below has had all manner of North American toys stuck on it, and has fired every round of cheap ammo I could find, and works fine. Is it as good as a Stag, Armalite, Colt, LMT, or KAC? No, it isn't - but it is economical, reliable, reasonably accurate and a good way to get started in shooting (as opposed to owning) Black Rifles. But thanks for sharing your great depth of experience with us.

PS, please don't take this as a flame, I'm just sick of the same old Bullsh*t from people who have no clue what they're talking about. Now "Cue Hatman, we need to hear about Chinese Aircraft Carriers in Burrard Inlet".
