Hi All,
Need some advice on quick takedown pins for my bushmaster ar-15.
I'm thinking about switching to quick takedown pins so that I can pack it into a smaller case. I'm asking for three bits of advice:
Who makes them?
where can I get them?
and What are your experiences using them?
thanks

1) KNS makes quick take down pins... (The one with the sling swivel is nice because you can put a keyring on it)... YHM (Yankee Hill Machine) also makes a very nice set.

2) In Canada, I have no idea...

3) In general, I've thought that while they were nice... I felt like I had wasted my money each time I've purchased a set (and I have both a KNS & YHM set).

Look, they work as intended; but I'd really rather bring along a small screw driver, small pocket knife, or some kind of punch.... The reason being that its cheaper (and your pins will be easier to manipulate after 1-2k rounds).

On a side note, I like the YHM pins better because they're easy to pull on and the fit/finish is nicer... While the KNS requires a little pushing (normally), and if you have a keyring on it sometimes it will get hooked in with your LBE when running a single point sling.

Questar has some in stock(not sure on brand). I agree with NorCalDustin, there isn't any need for rapid disassembly of your rifle. A loaded round or a punch of some sort will push out the standard pins just fine. I say save your coin and buy more ammo.

I personally have always found I can simply push the standard pins enough with my thumb to be able to get the head of the pin to lift free of the receiver. Then I can pinch the head with my thumb and forefinger and move the pin clear.

I also keep a dummy round in the storage area of the grip, in case I need an extra little push but I frankly have not needed it.

Of course your hands may be different than mine and my advice may not work for you.

Strikes me as being a perfect solution to a non-existant problem. I often transport an AR in a takedown case, and have never found a need for anything other than the standard pins. They are perfectly good for rapid takedown.
But whatever turns your crank when accessorizing your rifle.....

I appreciate the feedback, The only reason I'm thinking about getting quick pins is because I am in the market for the rear pin anyway. The detent ball is missing on mine and I figured since I'm buying maybe I should just get a set of quick pins.

Do I need to worry about the quick pins failing?

There are some cases in which even a bullet or punch does very little to help getting the pins out... Of course this is typically due to really tight receivers or out of spec pins (yes i've seen it).

Even still, i would rather stone the parts in question... But thats me.

They should not fall about because they should be retained by the pivot/takedown pin springs & detents... If you are missing these parts, you should get new ones.
