Hey All,
Just ordered a MacAbee Defence reciever before the rules change! I’m in Calgary, and looking to get into the 3-gun this year. Looking for recommendations on:
1. Caliber. Looking at the 5.56, but would consider the wylde.

2. Components- (barrel/trigger/bolt carrier). Is there a local or Canadian manufacturer you would recommend? Is there a package where I can buy all I need?
Thanks
Mike

TNA sell mystery box’s that usually has everything you need, a bit on the lower end stuff though.
Other than that RDSC seems to be the only place who has a one stop shop.

This barrel would be perfect for 3 gun. I put one of these on the last Modern Sporter I put together. This one uses a .750 gas block instead of a .936" like their regular barrel uses so there won't be any problems with handguard compatibility. It is a medium contour so it's not heavy and it balances good and should be better than a pencil barrel for consistency when putting a lot of shots downrange like you will be doing.

Best deal going for a BCG right now.

No matter what you do you are going to have to accept the fact that you're probably going to have to order from multiple sources to get the build you want.

As mentioned RDSC carries a large inventory of stuff but it still might not be exactly what you want.

Congrats and good luck with your build.

Thanks for the info!
I’ll definitely have a look at those. Is .223 wylde the way to go?

I think .223 Wylde has a bit tighter tolerances ( chamber).
More suited to target shooting.
.556 would probably be capable of shooting a bigger variety of ammo( cheap stuff)

This thread...

Hand-wringing over 556 vs .223 wylde....recommending a mystery box for a newbie....suggesting a NATO-spec AR...Maccabee defense for getting into 3gun before the rules change...556 capable of shooting a bigger variety of ammo (cheaper stuff)...and of course the always helpful guy who provides multiple links because he doesn’t really know much about anything.

This thread should be stickied as a demarcation point at which the CGN Black and Green Rifles section ceased being relevant. The saddest thing for me is that those who remember what this forum was, those who would just shake their head at the posts above, they won’t reply because they won’t even see this thread. They’ve long ago learned to tune out the “AR recommendation” and “Best NR AR-style rifle” threads.

Highlander44 I don’t mean any offense to you or your question. Just realize that the answers you’ve gotten are from people who really have no idea what they are talking about - those that do know what they are talking about probably won’t even see this thread. It’s unfortunate but true.

And then there's A$$ #@!€$ like you that come along and don't contribute anything constructive to the thread.

The newbie asked about parts for his Maccabee build. I'm pretty sure he doesn't give a flying f#@& about what you think.

Lol, Keep "running fool"

here's photos from the armeast bolt with 60ish rounds and a cleaning compared to old bushmaster bcg.

runs fine. I assume they're on sale because of the machine marks on the carrier are a little more visible with this coating.

Go light weight barrel. Try to keep the barrel under 2lb. You're 3 gunnin, you want light weight. medium, light, heavy contour is subjective to different manufacturers.

Thanks for all the info- appreciated.
Mike

Thanks,
I’ll be looking for higher end parts, so I don’t have to buy twice. Just started looking for a lilja barrel dealer here, but doesn’t seem like much.

ATRS can hook you up with a Lilja barrel.

Or you can buy this one off the EE and skip the long wait.

Keep in mind, as the add says, this barrel came off a Modern Varmint so the index pin needs relocated to fit anything else. I've done an AR barrel to fit my Modern Varmint and it's no big deal.
